by Kawall NO LONGER A SONY CUSTOMER!!!!!!!
I purchased this television and it arrived with a cracked screen. I immediately called Sony for some assistance and spoke to 4 customer service reps none of whom could assist me. I was told Sony has no replacement policy and I would have to wait 2-3 hours for a call from a different customer service dept. I never received the call and only got a response after sending an email to Sony. I was told that a refund would be processed 14 days after sony received the television. Not one time was the option presented to have the television replaced and this made me furious. My intent here was to have a television, however I am left with no tv and a hold on the funds to purchase another Television due to Sony's delayed return policy. I will no longer be purchasing any products from Sony and I am deeply dissapointed in the lack of customer service after spending $3,000 on a product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by HILL61 A noticeable upgrade from my 2008 Sony XBR4 46."
A great TV in all respects but I wouldn't say a "dramatic" upgrade from my 2008 Sony XBR4 46" in terms of picture quality for 98% of what I watch. I haven't watched any 4K material yet but didn't purchase it for that reason. Far more bells and whistles than I need. My new OPPO 103 Darbee Blu-Ray player brings out the true potential of audio/video qualities on the X900B. This TV has been thoroughly reviewed on many websites, all sterling ratings, so I don't think I could add much more to the praise.
One thing that does bother me is the fact that the speaker array, which is in a vertical alignment on either side of the screen, should have been covered as it was on my previous unit with a grill or cloth. The speaker drivers look cheap and are a bright silver. An aesthetic distraction and eyesore. I run my own audio through this TV, as I have always done. Also, I think that the audio and video settings are somewhat limited compared to my previous Sony. Would have enjoyed the ability for more fine tuning of those particular settings. Some other settings seem less useful in the way they effect picture quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DeBruce There Is Only One TV: Sony!
At this point, I don't even look at other brands when I decide to purchase a television. Bought my first Sony in 1972, and still have it. It was a 13' portable for my dorm room, and through years of abuse, camping trips, etc., . . . yes, it still works perfectly. When the first HD tv's came out, I bought the big 36" cathode ray tube Sony. Dazzling, and yes, still have it, and the kids use it for their gaming tv. When I upgraded, I bought the top of the line Sony XBR 9 flatscreen, a 42", which was huge, at the time. Dazzling, and still in use in the master bedroom. And, our newer XBR 900 is our primary TV at the moment, a 54", but we are currently building a new great room, and are looking forward to purchasing a new XBR 900 in a more appropriate size for a 36 x 28 space, hopefully a 70-80", and maybe a 4K. The great thing about our Sony's, is they never seem to die, and we are still using them all, including a 21" in the kitchen. You won't find clearer more life-like viewing than a Sony XBR, period. Nothing compares. Sony forever!

Summary: Overall terrible experience. First TV was delivered and was DoA, only had vertical lines (pic attached). Second TV was delivered and has issue with pixels on top left side of screen. Lots of fading and shadowing effects.
I currently own a XBR 52" that was purchased about 7 1/2 years ago. It still performs flawlessly. This 4k HD TV was to replace it as our main TV. After this experience I think I'll look at Samsung.

Rated 5 out of 5 by danL words do not do this tv justice.
first - this tv is like nothing I've ever seen. once you've got the settings taken care of, watch bluray movies and prepare to see films like you've NEVER seen them before. there aren't words to do justice to it - you have to see it in person. the blacks and contrast are outstanding. the colors really pop - everything is vibrant without any distortion. the motionflow I set to "smooth" for blurays - it makes everything look so real - like you could walk into the screen. watching animated movies like "polar express" or "rise of the guardians" is a jaw-dropping experience - everything is so detailed and sharp. then there's the audio - the speakers look very nice in the tv and sound terrific. once I tweaked the settings the way I wanted, it simply is the best in-tv audio I've ever heard....better than the soundbar I was previously using. also, I am using the complementary subwoofer (included for free when buying from sony!) and it just makes the audio that much more amazing.
the tv and subwoofer was very easy to set up. the audio/picture settings were adjusted (by me) and after a couple of hours of trying different setups - I got exactly what I wanted.
look, if you want the best picture/audio available in a tv ? get this and don't hesitate. sony offers a 30 day trial and I guarantee you won't send it back. the picture is beyond anything I've ever seen - it's that stunning. the audio is better than many sound-systems I've heard.
I've had the tv for a couple of weeks and I'm thrilled with the purchase.
the tv I got was the xbr-55x900B

Rated 5 out of 5 by CaptiveToCableNPhoenix It's my new best friend!!
great TV! I have basic cable. I wasnt looking for a TV that just reflected whatever you put into it, I wanted one that would make basic cable and the news look good, and this TV does it. It adds to the signal so even 480i looks ok. The menu takes some time to get used to but once you figure out how its set up it's intuitive.
There are some things I cant find in the so called manual or online like how to set up skype, where is the camera on the TV, why does it say its not hooked up to the internet but i can still get netflix (which by the way has 4k content).
The sound is amazing, you wont have to buy additional sounds systems. The base speaker is extra but worth it.
I would buy this over and over!

Rated 4 out of 5 by SolidState9311 Good PQ but not too smart
I got this as a 4K upgrade from my old XBR-HX909 and like the HX909 I got it for the picture quality. I'm happy with the picture quality but not too excited about the side speakers. The side speakers make it looks a lot bigger than it really is. I wish the speakers were detachable.
For a "Smart" TV, Sony have to be the worst on the market, in my opinion. The DLNA is great and works as expected. The Netflix app works just as well as the PS3, we don't have to use our PS3 for Netflix anymore. We just use it now for Blu-Ray, VUDU and games for the kids.
The down side to this TV is the apps are terrible. The apps are just a long list of nothing. No directory or category to list the apps; you have to slowly scroll through this long and painful list and try the app to see if it's worth your time. So far I have not found anything worth my time or the time to find it. The weather app even was junk. The built-in apps are also terrible. For example, the picture app is unusable. Can't accesses the DLAN server for to display personal pictures or music when the TV is idle. It's like Sony list a lot of stuff as features on the marketing sheet but when you try to use the features there is nothing usable. It like one of those fake building that have the front but it's really just there for the camera but there is no back to the building. This was the case on my old Sony and after 5 years sony Smart TV still is lagging. I now have to buy a Google Chrome to make the TV Smart.
I say I'm disappointed in the Smart part of the TV after playing with other smart TV to compare the sony to. If it wasn't for the fact of good picture quality, I would have gotten a different brand.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Bane The Sony XBR55X900B
By far the XBR55X900B is today's standard for picture and sound quality. I've done many reviews and this was the best today. Albeit, it would be wise if purchasing such an expensive set that you also spend the extra $200 on a professional calibration. Only complaint would be the weight and I suppose that's mainly due to the built in speakers. Also the remote. Very cheap! You expect better quality when buying such a high end product.
