The XAV-63 is a good receiver, but lacks some details. The interface I feel could be at least a tad quicker. 7-band EQ is a nice surprise, even though it's sad that this isn't standard by now (3-band is kind of useless). Time alignment is a very nice surprise, if only for one glaring issue... with only 2 pre-amp outputs TA is pretty much useless. The sound quality and low noise floor are nice, and the screen's graphics look clean. One thing that I just don't understand is... why oh why did Sony decided in order to turn off the unit you have to hold the button down for three seconds? If you don't hold it long enough the unit goes into some demo advertisement mode... very annoying, very lacking in mechanical detail; most factory receivers turn off with a tap of the button. Also, it would have been nice if the volume rotary knob was also the power on/off push knob, rather than having to hold the 'source' button to turn the unit off; not sure why its not.
I'm giving it a good rating, but honestly, I'm pulling the receiver out and looking for an alternative.
