Rated 4 out of 5 by olderguy Very good for the price
When first connected I was underwhelmed when comparing it to my stereo system. But, the stereo cost about 3 times as much as this soundbar so this was not a fair comparison.
The optical cable is a little short which limits where you can place the soundbar but it was so nice not to have a bunch of speaker and input cables to deal with.
Sound can be very boomy and hollow if you do not use the correct settings but after a little experimentation the sound is definitely better than that from the TV (55EX645) and while not true surround is quite acceptable for the price.
Bluetooth was easy to setup to my iPad and Mac Pro.
I did think of returning it but now I have the settings sorted I am happy and will keep it.

I've had this system for five months and am very pleased. I moved from a house to an apartment and wanted a simple sound solution, and this was it. The Bluetooth connectivity is a great feature. The sound is clear, punchy and loud. Keep in mind this is not a 5.1 system, so don't expect a true surround sound experience. The 3D surround feature is gimicky in my opinion and can't really be heard. This system is best suited for for someone who wants an upgrade from TV speakers, Bluetooth and a decent sound. Look for it on sale, as $350 is steep. Night mode is a great feature for anyone living in an apartment, but I hardly use it. NOTE: A review complained about not being able to connect the optical cable. I had the same issue, until I realized I needed to remove the protective plastic on either end of the cable (a duh moment). I ended up buying a longer optical cable, as the supplied 3-foot cable was just too short. Honestly, Sony, for a few pennies more you could have supplied a 5' cable and made your customers much happier. I'm not going to get into an audiophile-type of review, since this is not a high-end audio system. It's excellent at what it does - giving you great sound for the price, loud, punchy and clear, Bluetooth connectivity, a few audio modes and the convenience of a wireless subwoofer. I do find the subwoofer's finish is a bit cheap looking, but I got over it. You will too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Senko Great little system!
This is a great system, I was very happy with the ease of setup, the bluetooth features as well as the sound the system produces.
The 3 ft optical provided is a joke, I have a Sony 55" BRAVIA® HX701 and the hookups are on the opposite end of the soundbar and the cable doesn't even reach, you would figure that Sony would at least make sure their products could hook up to each other with the hardware provided. I had to go out and spend another $30 dollars on a optical cable that would reach.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Murtaugh01 very good sound for the price
Overall very satisfied with the sound. Nice to be able to set the sounds to our liking. Crisp voices makes my TV listening much more enjoyable and now do not miss some of the dialog. Very easy to set up. Delivery from the Sony store was very fast.

Sounds great as long as you are not expecting surrounds sound. very clean sound from both the speaker and sub in all modes. wireless sub sounds great and the setup takes all of 5 minutes. Love the bluetooth feature and that was the main reason I got this model.

I bought this product seeking a low profile, clutter free replacement for my old school boxy all-in-one shelf stereo. I simply needed something small but powerful and reliable. If your situation is similar - this is the product for you. Setting up was a breeze really, though I was a bit annoyed that the optical cable is only about 2 feet long. Many will find they have to go buy their own. No coax/component audio or analog 3.5" jacked wires are supplied which makes no sense given how it must cost Sony pennies to produce. Anyway - the unit sounds awesome. It auto detects Dolby broadcast streams and automatically optimizes for best sound. You can also tweak the sound dynamics (movie, talk, music). The Bluetooth connectivity is a HUGE bonus for those with smartphones. Speakers produce crisp and clear sound Subwoofer is adequate. I don't think though you'd want this system for a great room or large living area. Small living rooms and bedrooms only and you got yourself a perfect, low cost solution!

Rated 4 out of 5 by BDrms Good Sound, Poor Installation & Set-Up
Although the sound is very good, Sony planned the hanging set up very, very poorly. The pre-drilled holes in the sound bar do not correspond to wall studs so hanging the bar levelly and securely can be a real challenge.
Next the provided audio cable is only about 2 feet long. This makes it 8 - 12 inches too short to reach the plug on any TV. Had to go back to the store and spend an additional $20+ to buy an audio cable long enough to do the job.
If the sound bar required a longer audio cable it should have been provided. Cheap shot Sony! Had I known then what I know now, I would have spent more (or less) to avoid the hassles. As it is the Sony Sound Bar was $50 more than its next lower competitor with same sound quality. Only bought the Sony because of its aesthetics
Hope this review helps someone else avoid a 2nd trip to the store...
