by IDonna Costly Purchase
We just replaced the lamp August 4, 2010. We expected to see a longer life with the new lamp. I'm very disappointed that the lamp life is so SHORT! It is very costly to replace this lamp every 5 months.

I have owned this tv since 2007, and I still have it 6 years later because I just hate the idea of wasting what I paid for it. But that literally happens with this product. I've changed the bulb 3 times already. The first bulb lasted the longest, and every other bulb lasts less than 2 months before the tv tells me to change it. This is a lousy product. The picture has turned green and is a pain to see. I am done with it as well as with Sony. I have tried to complain but their customer support is mean and rude. I even asked the representative if he cared to which he replied "no, I don't." I mean really Sony? Please if you are like myself and still (for any reason) have this tv just stop before buying the lamp. You will lose money in the long run. I suggest a different cheaper brand. I have TVs in my home that were cheaper and still work just like the day I purchased them.

I have a 60 inch sony kds-60A3000 and I set my TV on power saving mode. That may be the reason the bulb has so far lasted me over 3 1/2 years. TV runs quite a bit too. I have it set up as a security screen also to view my driveway through a camera.
I would recomend a online purchase and you'll save $ over retail price.
The main thing also that you wear a clean cloth glove when ever handling the bulb as your skin oils will shorten the life of the bulb. YouTube has videos showing how to replace the bulbs.
The only thing I wish I did was to wait a few more months to buy a flat screen thin model, LED model..But the closeout price was unreal at the time..oh well..

I am on 3rd bulb in less than 3 years and Sony seem to be out of stock so wait time for replacement is long. It is so poor I am actually looking for a backup one for when mine fails. The last one i bought was from rivervalley electronics on eBay and it actually even seems to be better picture quality. Also I bought the extended warranty on my TV and the bulb isn't included so you know how confident Sony is in these bulbs. I was told in store that the extended warranty was a guarantee I would have a functioning TV for 2 years and it wasn't functioning. I complained until I got my first replacement for free but now I have bought two additional bulbs. I am hoping the RiverValley bulb will last longer. The cost is too high, its a bulb. I can buy a laptop computer for almost that price. If it was $50 I am sure they would still make a profit taking advantage of the poor customers that trusted in a Sony product. In a market of huge competition I think this product hurts Sony and I will never buy Sony product again. I am now going to write similar reviews on twitter and at least a few of the big review sites. Maybe even a video on youtube. I feel taken advantage of and its the only thing I can think to do. I just want to warn people of the over $100 dollars a year it cost to maintain the TV.

I can't believe this is a Sony product after five months everything started turning green until it finally burnt out. The guys who gave this any rating higher than 1 star must have gotten paid to do so, they are the reason I gave this bulb a try in the first place after reading all the 1 star reviews which happen to be absolutely true! I am definitely saying goodbye to this TV and Sony for good. I advise anyone else who has purchased any Sony rear projection TV not invest another dime in a replacement lamp they are a Rip Off!!! Shame on you Sony. What a disappointment.

I'm the third person I know who has had this bulb problem and frankly, I fail to see why Sony hasn't addressed all the complaints on this site. When everyone who owns this tv has the same problem it's not an isolated incident, nor should the owner have to suck it up and pay over $100/yr to operate their tv. The KDS60A3000 cost me $3200 at Best Buy - there shouldn't be a hidden operating cost for bulbs as well, not to mention paying to recycle the thing after you've paid to replace it! Sony, you need to read these reviews and kick up the quality control a few notches. Like so many others, I remember when it was a mark of distinction to own a Sony. What a shame; another great name in electronics has sacrificed its quality.

Not only do the bulbs blow up every few months , my optical block went in May. Sony manned up to this only because of a class action lawsuit. I have the KDS-55A2000 model. I would like to know if anyone had success in getting a free bulb from Sony. This is beyond maddness that they can get away with this. The price for these replacement bulbs is ridiculous. SHAME ON YOU SONY. I`m sure the optical block will go soon after the government mandated warranty extension. Paid over 2k for the TV and its been a money drain. MAN UP and serve your customers better.

Sony stinks! What happened to their quality of product. I have owned the Rear Projection TV for 2 years 3 months and am now on my 3rd bulb. Because sony does not sell just the lamp, I have taken to purchasing my bulbs on ebay to save a bundle. The ones I purchase their actually last longer and have a better picture quality and are less than 1/2 the price. If I am going to have to replace this bulb every 6-9 months, I might as well go the cheaper route!!!
I would never buy another Sony Tv again. They have just lost another long time customer!
