I have an A65 and wanted the wife to get something smaller, finally she did. She loves it and i can't say how jealous i am. The camera takes very good pictures with auto settings and if user is knowledgeable F-stop and shutter can be manipulated. We went out to the race track and she was taking better pictures then me. I had a zoom advantage, but at the end of the day... She could get the small camera out and take great shots at the pits while i felt uncomfortable to take out the a65 70-200 lens out. The great thing about this camera is that u can take pictures everywhere because it is so small and u dont have to worry about settings the camera will set it up for u and take the picture fast. I still think my A65 with all the a-mount lens available is a great feature, but its nice that a small little camera that fits in your pocket and shots fast and sharp works and competes with the big units is a great reason to buy...

Rated 4 out of 5 by Mercury Solid Device
Pros: Very easy to use.
The 16-50 mm lens that the unit comes with is very decent, but not great for macro shots as it needs to be over 12 inches away of your focus point. Works great for portraits even in low light, with or without flash.
I find the camera apps available to download to the camera to be a nice touch and very useful for beginner photographers.
The auto focus on the lens works great, but if your shooting anything within three feet, it has a hard time and you'll need to switch it to manual.
The unit itself is very fast and has no problem doing high speed shooting even if you don't have a high seed memory card.
The duel microphones pick up stereo audio really nicely.
Cons: Whenever I've done full HD recordings, whether my surrounding temperature is 60F or 90F, the device shows that its overheating and shuts off.
The battery doesn't last very long but most mirrorless cameras I've reviewed lack a long battery life.
Overall, I think the camera is a great equivalent to a professional DLSR with the advantage of being super easy and fun to use. A great buy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by CSDTX Great pictures, Poor durability and longevity
This camera takes wonderful photo's and is compact and easy for on the go. Small enough it is not cumbersome for vacation use.
Unfortunately Sony customer service is pretty inconvenient. I purchased this camera in April 2013, it mysteriously stopped working in February 2014. I took it to the Sony store, they are not equipped to handle camera's. They referred us to the technical support line. I had to mail the camera in, at which point I was told that the camera had physical damage and could be repaired for $800. My problem with the product is that the camera had never been dropped, any damage done I would deem as normal wear and tear. I feel the longevity and durability of the camera should have been better in this price point.
The Panorama feature on this camera was GREAT! Until is completely stopped functioning after four months of use. The photo's were too dark to discern anything.

by EdmundJacobs awesome camera
This camera takes wonderful pictures. I am not a professional photographer however I was able to take good pictures straight away.
The pictures are superior to my LG phone, my IPhone 3 and my Ipad 3 (the IPhone and Ipad take very good pictures depending on light). There is a learning curve to for the more advanced features. I have been using the 18-55 lens and it works well. I would like to purchase the 55-200 zoom so I can get closer when taking pictures and videos of animals.
I understand that this camera may not take as outstanding pictures as a full on Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax DSLR. Nonetheless it has a very large, quality sensor and for those of you who can afford the Sony and Zeiss prime lenses and have the skills it should get very close to a DSLR.

I used to have an old nex 3 ,and decided to up grade to the new nex 5 ,specially because of the retractable lens, and a few additional features,i am very happy overall, much compact, faster ,and even easier to carry even in your pocket with all the advance options being an interchangable lens camera,i only miss the pop up flash of the nex 3 which is very convenient vs the atachable one

Rated 2 out of 5 by Enjoyearth Great Pictures but Camera & Lens Poor Quality
This is an extremely useful camera... light enough to carry everywhere and have great features. Images came out beautifully and color were well balance. Handy in capturing images in low light situations as the camera is able to take 3 images and process into one, capturing all the details etc. Overall I am very happy with the pictures taken in all sorts of situations.
The bad news is that this camera is rather fragile and quality is poor. Within the first 6 months of purchase, my lens went cranky and occasionally would not extend out or return to closed-position. I have to shake it to loosen the mechanism in order for it to function again. Also my shutter got stuck for no reason and had to be replaced at a cost since it has to be done outside USA. Wish Sony would utilized their renown quality standards on this camera.

There is a learning curve with this style as I am an old school 35 mm user. Many more options and settings available. I recommend lots of practice in many situations. Bought it to go on safari in Africa and loved it. The results were just what I wanted.
