Rated 5 out of 5 by PickyShopper Works as advertised
By far the best thing I've bought for the gym. Nothing like going right from lifting weights to the pool without a pause in the music. While you're swimming the sound quality does dip a little. I did have to turn up the volume while swimming to drown out the sound of bubbles as I blew air out. BUT, you're still listening to music while swimming...I'm still impressed. I also didn't have them come out of my ears at anytime during my workout. I wasn't going all out but they felt secure enough to support a really active workout.
As for complaints about getting music onto it...I'm surprised those people figured out how to navigate the internet to leave a bad review. When you plug them into your computer they show up as a removeable drive. Open it up find the file labeled "Music" and drag and drop your music files right in. Then, like any removable drive, make sure you properly eject it. That's it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by jdj81 Works great but You will need some patience
I bought a set 6 month ago and use them for an hour everyday (M-F). It will take you several swims to figure out their short comings but overall this is a very nice product.
Things to know:
1) anything you have purchased in iTunes is copyrighted and cannot be loaded onto the walkman. You will need to find a solution (there are simple several options out there) to rip the copyright coding off the files you want to add
2) if water gets into the earhole you will lose sound in the ear until the headphone has totally dried out which if left in a gym bag could take a few days. best thing I have found is to set them out on a table or my desk at work.
3) I can swim hard with no issues but if I am too aggressive in my flip turn the drag created can pull the phones out of my ears just enough to allow water in. The lesson is know the limit.
4) be patient with them. any product like this is going to need some fine tuning. The first time I put the walkman on and got into the pool both ears filled with water and I had no sound while swimming. Now, I rarely have issues and if I do it is usually because I was sloppy in putting them on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WilsK7 Great for swimming
As the reviews say, it does take awhile to adjust the earpiece to get that solid snug fit. My left ear is the standard ear bud that comes with the product, but my right ear is smaller so I had to switch the right side to one of the smaller attachments they give you. It took almost a half hour to figure out the right fitment...including using some cleaning agent to clean your ears and ear wax because the oil does make the headphones slip out.
All that being said, finally when I got it to work and went to the pool, these were amazing. I've swam for 20 years, 15 competitive, in silence. Now I can listen to music like if I was at a gym, it makes recreational swimming enjoyable! Like the other reviews, if you accidentally hit one side and water goes in, you cant hear anything even if you get the snug fit. But overall, it did what it was supposed to do, and lasted my entire hour of swimming.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Leticia Improved Model
This is an updated version of the NWZ 2GB Walkman. They have improved the old model in three ways. First the mp3 player now attaches itself directly to the USB for charging in it's own dock. Secondly the ear pieces STAY in your ears. They don't fall out. They have a suction or something different then the first model. Lastly there is a lock mechanism on the MP3 player that prevents you from accidentally turning it on in your bag ect.
I would say Sony has done well improving the old model. I feel the bass on the player is not quite as good as the old model but it's good enough. I haven't tried these for swimming as I am a marathon runner. For running this is a hands free model that I have relied on for two years. It's good enough for those purposes.

Rated 3 out of 5 by thelittlemermaid Good - but I have two problems
The product is good. I really like the sound quality, it´s great. It´s also really comfortable not to have a string hanging down anywhere.
However, I have two problems. First, I can´t fast forward in songs. I can skip from one track to another, but not fast forward or backward within a song. For me, this is very important as I like to listen to audio books when I swim. I have to be able to stop whenever and fast forward to where I was.
The other problem is that the product isn´t very long-hair friendly. It doesn´t seem to matter if my hair is in a ponytail or a bun or just straight, everytime I take the walkman off I loose a couple of hairs. The fabric just seems to stick to my hair. Maybe the next generation of the product could have something surrounding the fabric that is more hair-friendly...
I also wouldn´t mind smaller earbuds.

Rated 1 out of 5 by dakotabeann bummed
I was so excited about an MP3 for swimming. Bought it - took the time to download music(it took a while) took it walking a few miles to get use to it . Took it swimming -actually sat and enjoyed the pool today with a little swimming and the left ear went dead came back to my hotel room and my computer does not see the driver any more and I can not get the player to even turn on now. I have worked through all the options I know to unistall and reinstall the driver.

Rated 4 out of 5 by DaveT Like 'em... not sure about the pool though.
Received the Walkman W273 as a Christmas gift yesterday and gave it its first run in the pool. I enjoyed the product immensely for the first 200 yards of freestyle, until I bumped my right ear on a flip turn. After the bump, water got in and that was end of hearing from that side. I tried shaking the water out, but to no avail. I swam another 500 yards, only hearing from the left side, without an issue. I had anticipated a potential problem because, unlike the left side, I could not get the right earbud to fit correctly, even with the largest earbud in place, If I had the option of a larger size, I don't believe this would have been an issue.
Then, while swimming the backstroke, water must've finally worked its way into the other side causing the volume to drop to practically nothing. I ended up taking them off and finished my workout sans-music. Although disappointed, at least It helped me get through two-thirds of my workout! Again, I can't help but to wonder if another size of earbud, or a slight redesign (maybe a Christmas tree option), would eliminate the water seepage.
Overall, the sound was good and they felt secure underneath my goggles. I am going to try the pool a few more times but, even if it doesn't work out, I can easily see myself using it in other outdoor activities.

Rated 5 out of 5 by singsox These babies are amazing
I bought these guys and put them to the test. I did a full running/rowing/heavy bag workout and even wore them in the shower. They are seriously awesome so far. They did not fall off or become loose once. I did tinker with the band a little to make sure it was snug and I watched the setup video. The sound quality is outstanding compared to my old knockoff mp3 player and running headphones. And No More Wires! Oh my god wires and the gym were just not fun. Thanks Sony this is awesome!
