Nice balanced and full sound for a small-medium size room. I got this over a bose speaker primarily for the built-in wifi and comparable sound quality. Streaming with airplay sometimes cuts out, but that may be from a congested network. It's used on a airport express N dual-band router expanded with another airport express N wired thru ethernet. It may help if the speaker supported 5ghz band. The battery isn't for all day partying outside, but it's nice to move it around the house for a little while. Overall, very happy with it.
The song pal app has an option for the speaker to turn off after 15 minutes of no use, which seems to work fine. Also there's an option to turn the speaker on with network access. I thought this would work thru airplay on iOS devices and Macs like the apple TV. With this option on, the speaker (that has turned off automatically) usually does not show up in the airplay device list after a while. It's pretty unreliable so I leave the speaker plugged in and turned on so it is ready to stream to. Hopefully this won't damage the speaker? Maybe a firmware update can fix this? I'd give 5 stars if this worked reliably.

Sounds great. WiFi connection process took weeks to establish, working with highest escalation tech support team sony had. Even they had to study problem for many days, but eventually came up with a fix (although getting to them was beyond challenging).
Speaker still won't play files from my laptop that are original recordings and other music files, the main reason that I chose this product over just Bluetooth available music.
Battery life is not very good - especially for a unit that's supposed to be portable.
Bluetooth connectivity is good, but doesn't work well with suggested app - in fact, Song pal was not even an option, contrary to directions. If you don't have an Apple product, you're out of luck. Use Airplay.
Instruction manual could be improved.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bonyankan Best Portable Speaker I Have Ever Had!
I was looking at high-end stand alone portable speakers for a while and suddenly my wife got this speaker for me as a surprise gift. Initially I was not happy with the gift, thinking it might not be as good as some of the other brands. But I have to say the sound is loud, clear and room filling. The battery life is also great at about 6 hours. Overall, a very impressive product.

For those of you looking for great sound and clarity without the need to occupy more of your cramped space *If that is your situation, large spaces welcome as well* with the added convenience of portability, then the new Sony SRSX7 Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Wi-Fi Speaker System might just be for you.
Simple yet elegant, the traditional rectangular and slim design with a glossy piano finish on the top, can be placed anywhere you desire in your home without it looking completely misplaced and with the dimensions of 2.4 x 11.8 x 5.2 inches it was able to be thrown into my messenger bag *which could roughly carry a 15" - 17" laptop* and taken with me anywhere, yes that includes the outdoors. Despite its size it is deceptively heavy *4.3lbs*, but not in a bad way. It feels like a solid piece of tech that could take a hit and keep going no problems, but I won't personally testing its damage threshold anytime soon, at least not on purpose. The SRSX7 comes with a built in battery with an estimated 6 hours of extensive use, and if the battery starts to deplete, an AC adapter is included to plug into an outlet to keep the sound going.
The sound coming from the slim speaker is fantastic, giving you clarity and base similar to that of a much larger speaker system. At maximum sound levels, you can easily disturb and anger your neighbors, so for those of you concerned with filling music in a room I can assure you it won't be an issue. Testing from a wide range of music genres from classical, country and rap, all the music came in pristine and clear and with the hip hop and rap surprisingly came some nice deep base that rattles my little table. Using the YouTube and Netflix apps on my phone, I wanted to hear the audio quality from videos and the results were excellent as well, especially when watching the 4th trailer for season 4 of Game of Thrones. I tested the speaker out using my Sony Xperia TL smart phone and Sony PlayStation Vita with both the wired and wireless capabilities and with all honesty I found no loss of quality going wireless in both devices. At the time of writing this review, I have preordered the Sony Xperia Z2 smart phone and tablet and will test out the sound quality on those devices since they will have more up to date audio codec's than my current phone. Utilizing the Wi-Fi on the speaker you can play music that is on your computer through your network which is an added convenience. It does also have an extendable Wi-Fi antenna which I presume will extend its range. Downloading the Song Pal app is also convenient, but not necessary, which allows you to make audio adjustments and changes to the default settings, and conveniently gives you access to your content with premium services such as Sony Music Unlimited or Pandora. Connecting devices with NFC is a breeze, simply tap the NFC symbol on your device with the speakers NFC symbol and a confirmation message comes up stating you have successfully connected with the speaker.
Given the current price of $299 at the time of this review I did find it a bit steep, but personally for me with the plethora of Sony devices I have owned through the years, Sony's reputation for quality and premium feel they put into every one of their devices, this is no exception, and is definitely worth every penny. Enjoy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Rockoutronnie Lots of features included
Had this unit a month now and you cannot go wrong with this one playing in your home. Even at very low volume the bass still sounds good without pounding the speakers. It has a lot of wireless ways to connect to it to make this very portable to use around the house or outside

Love the sound, great battery life, only thing is the glass material is hard to keep scratch free. Take care of it! Once it's scratched it looks horrible.
