Once a scientific tool but now a favorite of creative photographers, fisheye lenses forgo the restraints of rectilinear perspective - the complex "correction" that is required to keep straight lines looking straight - to deliver expansive images that cover an extremely wide angle of view with curvilinear perspective. The SAL16F28 provides an extremely wide 180° angle of view on 35mm full-frame format cameras (110° on APS-C format cameras). In addition to eye-catching interpretations of reality, it offers extended depth of field so that you can capture huge vistas in which everything from 20 centimeters to infinity is sharp, even at maximum aperture. Since the bulging front element and wide angle of view prevent the use of external screw-in filters, four selectable internal filter settings are provided: normal, O56 monochrome, B12 red reduction, and A12 blue reduction.
With exaggerated perspective and intriguing visual distortion, this fisheye lens brings images closer to the focal plane for a view beyond the ability of human eye.
Built-in filters can be selected by simply rotating a dial on the lens -- including Normal, 056 for accented contrast in B and W photos, B12 to correct color by eliminating red tones, A12 to correct color by eliminating blue tones.

Pros: Good Build Quality
Cons: Picky Focus
This lens is expensive, but, is well worth the price. I bought it for my A380, but have also used it on my old A100. Images come out crisp, but, i've noticed a few shots that should have been in focus, but were not. Otherwise, this is a solid piece of glass to purchase for yourself!

Pros: There is no substitute. Period.
Cons: Odd lens cover/bag arangement.
In my old Minolta MC/MD days, I had the Minolta incarnation of this lens and loved it. Granted in many ways it's a creative toy sort of lens, but I still find myself using it even at inappropriate times ("Hang on. Just let me grab a quick shot of this with the 16."). Every exposure has the potential to be a visual adventure waiting to happen and bring a smile to someones face.

Pros: Super high quality!
Cons: It only works properly on a full frame size dslr.
This is a super high quality lens. But unless you have one of Sony's high end DSLR camera"s you won't get the true fisheye look that you want. It will only be a 110 degree picture. Not the full 180 that a fisheye should be. I looked on line at the Sony style page and it said that this lens would work properly for my A2oo. I even called Sony and talked to a couple of different reps before I spent almost 900.00 bucks for this lens. They all said that this lens would work for my camera. But when I got it and started taking pictures I was shocked to see that it wasn't a true fisheye effect at all! They all gave me the wrong information on this lens. If you have a high end Sony DSLR with a full frame 35 mm equiv. processer size chip it will be great. If you don't, pass on this one and buy a Sigma or a Bower that is made for the asc-p size of image chip. That's what I did and I have taken some great full 180 degree fisheye pics.

Pros: Superb lens all around.
Cons: Stupid lens cap bag thing.
I use this lens with my A900 and it works perfectly. Fantastic shots possilbe. Rapid focus. Decent corner quality. Very hard not to get your fingers and feet into the picture. Hilareous close ups. Once you've run the image through curvature correction you'll see how great it is to have. Makes interiors look huge, would be great for real estate sales. Perfect lens for when you can't get far enough away, like in a car or small room. Also very lightweight, easy to carry in your bag. I recommend it if you can afford it.
