I have had this TV since November 2005, and the lamp is still working. I am purchasing the replacement lamp now, rather than waiting for it to completely fail.
But so far, this has been a great TV, especially for the money, and the lamp has already lasted a year longer than I expected. You guys either watch too much TV, or you just got unlucky.

Cons:
short life and expensive
Not a very good product if it only last 2-3 years. Way too expensive to purchse a new lamp. Might as well go buy another brand of TV

We purchased out Sony Wega May of 2006 from Costco. The bulb just went out for the 1st time september of 2112. I see several complaints about the cost of the bulb, I know Sony is not the least expensive product on the market because it is good quality. If you do not want to have to spend a little more for a better quality bulb as well, then puchase a cheaper TV from a discount box store. the replacement bulbs are cheaper (just like the TV). I have no complaints about my Sony Wega....
thank you Sony for making a great product.

Pros:
Great Tv
Cons:
The price of the replacement bulb should be less than $60
Sony knowing that this issue of replacement lamb is common and will have to be replace after 500hrs or less, the price should be affordable, Shame on Sony if they do this

Pros:
Excellent buy in a 50" HDTV
Cons:
Bulky in size by today's standards
We purchased a Sony 50" LCD Rear Projection TV in May 2006. It had picture quality comparable to plasma but was much, much cheaper. We have enjoyed the TV for 5 years and the picture has gradually grown darker. Yesterday I acquired and installed a new XL-2400 lamp and now the picture is as good as the day we bought it. In fact, we just purchased a 26" LED LCD TV for our bedroom and love the picture, but our Sony now matches it in quality agaion.

Performance and reliability problem. It does not last for 8,000 hours
In the past 14 months I have had too replace this lamp twice. The first was at 8 months; and then 6 months later. The lamp is over priced for the actual time it will last! Otherwise the television show a Good picture. The lamp so far is the main problem.

Cons:
Constantly replacibg $200 light bulb
TV was expensive, didnt know I would be replacing the bulb every 15 months which costs $200 if you can do it yourself, or $300 if you need a repairman! Years ago I said bye bye to Ford for faulty workmanship, today I say bye bye to Sony... whoever would have thought?

Pros:
Great set with wonderful picture, both SD and HD
Cons:
Optical block can go bad on these sets
For maximum bulb life you need to use some common sense: all DLP bulbs get very hot so you need to account for that. Translation - it's not the bulb's fault it's the user's fault. Don't put the set in a space where it can't breathe well, don't put the set near a heater vent, don't turn the set off and then back on before the bulb has properly cooled down (about five minutes to be safe). Most people who have bulbs/lamps that burn out prematurely are doing something wrong like what I mentioned above. I got 6,565 hours out of my lamp/bulb with minimal effort and intelligence...at 5 hours a day that's 1,313 days of viewing, or 3 years and 7 months. I don't watch quite that much TV, which is probably why I'm smarter than my bulb/lamp, so my lamp lasted 5 years. Since it is possible to get a quality Philips bulb with a case for $110 at many places online that means this TV, which won't burn in, costs me 6 cents a day... yes, about a penny per hour for crystal clear SD and HD viewing.

I have had this TV for 5-1/2 years and this will be the third projection lamp. I paid $250 for the repair work 2 years ago and now need to replace it again. Would be better off to go the WalMart and buy a new off-brand.

Easy purchase procedure. Product was in stock and reasonably priced. Easy checkout. We LOVE all of our SONY products (TV, Dream Theatre System, VAIO Laptop, Boom Box etc). I've been buying SONY since the early 80's. SONY ROCKS!

Pros:
Everything
Cons:
No S video or DVI port in the back.
I love my KDF-E2000. All you people who complain that it didnt last you long enough. Yall are just dumb dumbs,
A) You should have done the research on the lamps before you even paid. Average Lamp life is between 2500 - 5000hrs depending on your settings. You should know how much telly you watch. I was off by a month from the estimation of my lamp life. I watch alot of TV and play videos games for hours. I would have to say I use my TV probably bout 40 - 60 a week.
B) You should have bought the warranty from the store where you bought the tv from...They would have offered you a 2 - 10 year warranty for $70 - $120. That warranty would have covered your lamp replacements for up to 10 years.
C) I am sure you all got your SONY RPTVs for super cheap if they are all less than 3 years old...You got a great deal. You knew well enough that this day would come. You should have been asking "how much is a lamp for this tv?" when you bought it.
D) Dude!!!!! Its the internet. Hunt down the lamp for your tv. I found a few sites that sell the lamps and the cases for $149 - $239. Free shipping.
Dont yall dare talk bad bout my TV...
Good luck and happy watching

I bought this Tv almost 5 years ago
within a year the replace bulb warning came on
I looked at the prices and decided to wait until it was totally burnt since the warranty didn't cover bulbs now over four years later the bulb finally died on me
I'm not happy about the price but after heavy usage for almost 5 years it lasted long enough
but i will never buy a rear projection again

Pros:
Exceeding bulb life like a champ!
Cons:
Wish it had Picture in Picture
I bought this in September, 2006 and haven't had a problem yet. (Knock on wood.) Picture quality is great and hands down this rear projection TV blows away the competition. I've been waiting for the projection bulb to go for almost a year now, but alas, it just keeps on working. I'll be a Sony fan for life! I wrote a con, but I knew this when I bought it...otherwise would have 5 stars across the board.

I bought my 55" inch TV (KDF-55E2000) back in the summer of 2007 and now the lamp has gone bad after only 1 1/2 years. It's life is supposed to be 8,000 hours (avg). Now I get to spend $200 to get a new part.

Again, I just want to say what others have said. We have had this TV for less than 3 years and already having to replace the lamp. The owners manual says that it should last 8,000 hrs. This is NOT TRUE!! We paid a lot for this Sony and thought we would get more "life" out of it.
