  • Three Sizes, One Goal

Let the bass drop. Whether you choose the 30, 40 or 50mm drivers, all Extra Bass headphones share the same mission: Deliver big, booming bass.

  • The Mind Behind the bass

When asked what inspired the unique style of the headphones, designer Jun Komiyama said, "When I saw a puffy, luxurious, huge sofa I thought, 'Now that’s what I want. "He envisioned a handmade-like heaviness and high-quality impression that's clearly evident in the final result. Mr. Komiyama's main objective was to create a shape that would appeal to lovers of bass-heavy club music and hip-hop. One look at the king-sized ear cushions and you know what's in store.

  • Seriously Low Frequencies, Serious Bass

To achieve dramatic bass that really moves you, headphones need to produce ultra-low frequencies. As the chart suggests, Extra Bass headphones crush the likes of normal headphones with low levels that make all the difference.

I am an audiophile, enthusiast if you will, who has been deeply researching the best headphones for their value, comfort, and performance. This pair of headphones exceed anything I've ever experienced. I bought these headphones with the thought "They look comfy, but it seems like all this thing will do is have deep bass, the mid and high tones will probably be weak." I was amazed with my results! Not only did these headphones have fantastic bass, but all other tones were perfect as well! Better than expected! I enjoy a wide variety of music and expect the best audio from such a high price product. These headphones are beyond comfortable, in most cases no matter what headphones you buy, you will eventually get tired of wearing them. In this case, I wanna wear them all day! They pretty much cancel out all noises naturally and they make your head feel "good." There really is no other way to put it. These headphones make you feel comfortable, more so then without them on. This product is actually the best money can buy. I can easily say my search for the perfect headphones has stopped here. Sony, you never cease to amaze me! Especially now!

I am a studio engineer and an ardent audiophile. After trying a multichannel set of phones from another manufacturer, I was severely disappointed. So I bought these incredible headphones. Some say they are bass heavy..well that is what they are designed for..but with a little tweaking on the EQ..you can make these phones sound excellent across the whole audio spectrum. I do not find them lacking in any of the audible sound spectrum as long as you EQ them. I love them and would recommend them to anyone. Be sure to have a very good quality sound output source..as these phones love that.

Step up to Sony's long-awaited, high-end MDR-XB700 Extra Bass headphones. Engineered with an oxygen-free copper (OFC) voice coil for clear sound with no degradation, these bad boys were destined for handling high power (3000mW). You will also appreciate the circum-aural, closed-design ear cushions, padded headband and of course the enormous 50mm Extra Bass diaphragm driver units. Includes a carrying pouch to protect your investment.

Direct vibe structure

Built with a direct vibe structure to ensure high audio fidelity, the Extra Bass headphones feature a tightly sealed acoustic design that allows for a high level of sound isolation which reproduces powerful and extended bass sound.

Optimal sound quality.

Sound leakage and a loss in audio quality are minimized thanks to a sealed acoustic design. Additionally, the MDR-XB700 headphones have an exceptionally wide frequency response from 3-28,000 Hz.

50mm driver units

Exclusively engineered by Sony, the extra-large 50mm Extra Bass diaphragm driver units accurately reproduce ultra-low frequency sounds and deliver larger than life, rich, deep bass reproduction.

Closed, dynamic design.

Experience the ultimate in comfortable listening with the Extra Bass headphones' over-the head, around the ear circum-aural design. The drivers inside the ear cups are angled parallel to your ears to not only reduce pressure, but increase comfort and deliver an unbelievable listening experience.

Flat Y-type cord.

Minimize tangles while you're on the move with the flat yet durable Y-type 3.9ft. (1.2m) cord. Also includes a gold-plated, L-shaped stereo mini plug.

Oxygen free copper

Designed for a crisp, clear signal with no degradation, the OFC voice coil is made for high power handling capacity (3000mW).

King sized ear cushion.

Providing more than exceptional sound, the Extra Bass headphones feature ultra-thick, pressure-relieving ear cushions for supreme comfort and better acoustic performance. Each earcup measures 2.0 inches in thickness and 4.3 inches in diameter. The flat and seamless, padded headband delivers enhanced wearing comfort.

Supplied carrying pouch.

The headphones are exceptional! This is What you would expect from a Sony product, PURE QUALITY! The plug is the only cons on the unit. Besides that They are EXCELLENT! Some may complain about the size of the headphones, what do you expect, big headphones BIG SOUND.

Bass, very bass.

Pros: Everything it's an amazing product.

Cons: The Extreme Bass Sound go out of the headphone. (like a speaker)

I bought it like one year ago. Despite its the bulkiest headphone on the market I carried it everywhere (even on a plane). The design is very original. The construction and materials make it ¨stronger¨ than anyone out there. The synthetic earmuffs silence the external world for you. The Extra Bass feature and the fidelity of sound is one of the best I ever experienced. It is a must to have!

awesomest headphones in the whole wide world

Pros: Awesome bass Awesome Cushion Awesome headphones !!!

Cons: Extremely hard to find one

These headphones destroy beats by dre through the roof. Monster headphones are all about looks but not quality. I'm very selective about my headphones....monster doesn't even come near for this price. The bass is out of this world....the looks aren't that great. IF you're searching for looks these are not the headphones for you. IF you're searching for awesome sound quality, comfort and rigidness. this is the one!!!!

Amazing

Pros: Great sound and bass

Cons: None

These headphones are amazing and are worth the money. When i unboxed them the first thing i thought were that these headphones are huge and look great and reliable. When I put them on i said these have to be the most cunfortable headphones out there and i didnt want to take them off. After listening to music for about an hour i was amazed on how loud these can actualy get and how much bass they can put out. So if you want a great pair of headphones that are loud, clear, and have lots of bass then these are for you. Trust me you wont want to take them off there just that good

Pros: Excellent deep bass, not heavy, stylish, all the sound aspects handled superb

Cons: cant wear it for too long bcos get sweat very quickly, the soft material which is inside the ear pad stripped off

i have been using this for one year ,i purchased this when it came to market ,i really loved everything and it performed well as i was expected but the one thing i hated the soft material which is inside the earpad stripped off very soon which means that inside layer removed i dont know whether it effect the sound quality ,this is i thing due to heat and sweat, except that every thing looks fine, if u r a bass lover definitely its your choice

It's AwesomE!!!

Pros: It's all perfect yo

Cons: None found so far

It's Bass quality is perfect. Not like other headphones it doesn't exaggerate the bass by lowering other mid range tones. I just tried my ordinary earphone after listening by these and i found out my normal earphone doesn't deliver any bass at all. These are great and i'm quite satisfied with them. :)

Cons: cord could be 2 feet longer

SONY has raised the bar on these headphones. I haven't owned a better pair of headphones since I bought my KOSS PRO 4AA in 1972. Dollar for dollar, you will not get a better product than the MDR-XB700 s. Now, if my wife will stop hogging them from me ........

The Headphones are SO VERY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Pros: PUMPS OUT GREAT BASS/GREAT SOUND/GREAT PRICE/CASE IS INCLUDED!

Cons: There is not enough padding around the band that goes around your head, but plenty of comfort/padding for your ears!

So my review of this product is there very awesome high quality headphones! The sound is AMAZING!!!!! The BASS is like AWESOME!!!!!! BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!!!! & for what your getting for the price is just CRAZY!!!! You get a carrying Case with the headphones!!!!! & the headphones WAAAAY BETTER then Dr. Dre's as you save $170 BUCKS!!!!!(Studio) Or ($270 BUCKS if it's the PRO) & They PUMP OUT WAY BETTER & MORE BASS!!!!!! The only con is they really need to get some more padding on the band that goes around your head, but other then that, there AWESOME! & they have PLENTY of padding for your EARS!!!!! I mean, the padding for your ears are big as sleeping pillows, so don't worry about that :) My final review... ALTHOUGH THE COMFORT WITH LACK OF PADDING IS A CON FOR ME... THE HEADPHONES HAVE AN AWESOME PUMPING BASS! HAVE AWESOME SOUND!!!!! AND HAVE A GREAT VALUE!!!!!! WORTH IT!!!!! ESPECIALLY OVER THE DR's Headphones!!!!!

Like a sub woffer in your head!

Pros: Comfortable and effective

Cons: No trendy graffics?

I play drums and needed headphones, that when plugged into my ipod, would push out enough volume so the music was louder than the drums. These do the trick with volume to spare. I'm much less frustrated now that I don't have a cord snaked through the drums into my computer or outboard rack equipment to add the volume I need to practice. I worked in radio for over 25 years, have had hundreds of headphones. When I say the Sony's are comfortable and push out the volume, I have a very good reference point to compare them to. The Sony's are like having a sub woffer in my head. No baloney, they will blow your mind, and that's a good thing!.

The Headphones That Make Audiophiles Happy

Pros: Rock Solid Frame, Rock Solid Sound

Cons: Personally: Cable Length

As said in the 'pros' section, the frame is quite robust. Since it is a 50 mm driver headphone, it would be quite heavy when you put it on your head but it's actually quite comfortable. After prolonged use, the frame flexes back into its original position preserving the headphone's original packaged presentation. (I would not recommend putting these around your neck and just use the included carrying pouch for transportation.) Sony has had quite the reputation for producing some serious speakers in the past and it definitely shows with the XB700's. The bass doesn't explode in your ears, unless you want it to of course, courtesy of the ability to handle 3 watts of power, and the trebles are clear and crisp; despite this being a bass-heavy headphone. From classical and contemporary to trance and vocals, these headphones will reproduce all of the sounds with great precision and balance. Overall, these headphones exceed most of my expectations of functionality and durability save for cable length. Though a longer length would probably mean that someone would carelessly step on the cable. I guess these headphones are not meant to be shared so why not make a stop at your local Sony Store and pick the headphones that make audiophiles happy.

Exactly what I expected

Pros: Excellent booming bass, crisp highs, beautiful design

Cons: Short cable (same as average earbuds)

They are what you'd expect from looking at the specs. They have a beautiful design and the sound quality is amazing all around. They are bass heavy but it's not overpowering and that's why you buy these headphones. They have nice crisp highs and the mid frequencies are perfect too. I find that sometimes the mids get drowned out by the bass but it depends more on the mix and quality of the song than the headphones themselves. Overall amazing quality and frequency response for the price!

Great Headphones

Pros: -good bass handling(needs eq adjustments, bad bass with flat eq)

Cons: -left earphone rattled at 60mW -very big

the headphones are greatttt! but they can "handle 3000 milliwatts" sure, but they sound bad after 60 mW haha that got me pretty upset, i was expecting to be able to listen to these at high volumes, but i hope my second pair is better they are sending me another pair because of the left ear rattling, the right ear performed fine with my headphone amp at 100mW so it was a defect, sony said they were suprised from the rattling too so the second pair should sound great, the 50mm driver is gigantic and sounds great you can easily hear the difference between 256kbps and 320kbps wich made me very happy,The bass is nice and punchy, the mids are nice and mellow but clear, and the highs are crisp and clear i am very happy on how they perform, even if they only sound good at 60mW. These blow the beats by dre out of the water i tested them side by side, they sound even better than the beats pro too i campared them side by side also, although they arent nearly as durable or comfortable haha hence the price. You really cant get better headphones for the price if they are for listening, dont get them for djing because the headband is thin and would probably break over time of the rough handling but for normal music and audiophiles i recommend this all the way accross the sky (double rainbow)-lol BTW-mW is milliwatts not megawatts 60megawatts would probabaly kill you and wreck your house down like there was an earthquake lol

Best headphone in their class!

Pros: INCREDIBLE Sound, Light and Portable, No background hiss

Cons: Short cord

First of all, the sound quality is INCREDIBLE! I have EQ'd these headphones to increase the bass even more, but even before then it was great! Second, these are very light, and I can take them along with me. Perfect for what I do! I am a small-time DJ, and for the money I have, these are Definitely the best you can buy for less then $150. Trust me, these are a great choice! The only problem in my opinion, is the length of the cord, but for what most of you are probably going to use it for, this won't be a problem. It is a problem for me because I need to be able to move around with them around one ear and mix, but I'm still doing just fine. You learn to live with it.

Bass Boost

Pros: Good sound

Cons: Can't handle an extreme amount of bass like I was hoping

I have an iPhone and when the equalizer is on bass boost I can hear some crackling.. Which upset me. I had been looking for headphones that could handle any amount of bass I could throw at them, so I guess I'll just have to keep looking. But these are definatly the best headphones i have ever used so far. They are very comfortable and plushy.
