Great Little Machine

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: None yet

We got our first video camera in 1984. Since that time, I have used virtually every format (VHS, VHS-C, 8mm and DV). Several years ago, I went through the very painful process of copying some old tapes to DVD using my computer and a software package. Rendering usually took hours. This little unit is a direct to DVD recorder. So far I have transferred 50 hours of video tape to DVD. I started with the DV tapes first since they were the easiest. the DVDs look great. I am now transferring the VHS-C tapes. The unit allows several types of transfer with cables or media cards. I have not tried to transfer images from media cards, but it looks easy. I have also copied the DVDs of my home videos using my computer and both Soney Vegas, and Pinnacle software with no problem

No Computer DVD Recorder

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: None

This is the best product, without Question, to make DVD videos and slide shows from your digital cameras. The slide show it makes is awesome and so easy. It also converts DVD's from older video cameras such as Hi8 and VHS players. Just hook the devices together and make sure of the time requirements of the tape then press record. You can even edit.

Awesome product

Pros: Setup, Menu

Cons: Screen size

This product is great. we have had a handyman 8mm camera for some time but we never used it much because of how much of a pain it was to move the video off of the 8mm tape. This device has brought new life to the camera. We are busy copying all of our tapes to DVD and it is easy to use and quick to setup.

This DVD recorder is fantastic!

Pros: Easy to use, great quality DVDs

I was skeptical, but bought this unit anyway because I could not use the software that came with my new HD camcorder. There seemed to be a conflict and the only way I could watch my videos was to attach the camera to my TV. This recorder is very easy to use and the HD quality is perfect. You can downgrade the quality to SD for normal DVD playback and that quality isn't as good, obviously, but still very satisfactory. I would recommend this to anyone.

nice machine

Pros: reat thought out and easy to use

Cons: card reading !!!

Recently purchased this piece of equipment and it is a great idea and easy to use,,,however after inserting a san disc and copying, the @$#!* thing does not take the photos off of the disc in the order that the pictures were taken !!! One minuet I am looking at one thing, then another and then we go back to the earlier subject and jump back to the beginning again !! This is frustating as heck when it jumps back and forth without copying the photos in order as they are on the disc !!It is junk when it comes to this ! . Very frustrating !!!!

Excellent solution for a videographer

Pros: Easy setup and recording, HD, HDMI output

Cons: Doesn't propagate input signal to output RCA plugs, so you'll need a distributor if you want to record on multiple dev

I was really impressed by the capability of this DVR to detect the end of a miniDV tape from my camera, even through an RCA cable. I needed to copy some miniDV tapes to DVD, and this beauty allowed me to just press record and then play on the miniDV camera, and the DVR would actually pause once the video on the tape ended. Other DVRs would record forever the blue screen of my camera, so this allowed me to relax and not setup timers and alarms every time i needed to copy two tapes on one DVD.

Useful little recorder, but missing some features.

Pros: Simple DVD Recorder. Works as advertised.

Cons: Could use some additional features, like sound, and better previewing.

I bought this mainly to quickly record old VHS and camcorder tapes. I also liked that it has options for recording AVCHD high definition video to standard DVDs for playback on a PS3 or blu-ray player. The device has been working well, although I quickly wished it had a built-in speaker or output jack for previewing sound. Without sound, you can't be doing something else while recording. You CONSTANTLY have to be watching the little screen if you want to pause for commercials or stop when your program is finished. And while it does have a built-in preview function, it's not at all comprehensive. You can't scan through your disc, advance through the auto-chapters, or check the last 2 minutes of your disc. So really the only thing that makes sense is to check the first minute or so, finalize the disc, and then preview it on a real DVD player. It also would have been great to be able to record HDV video digitally from Sony TAPE camcorders, but I can understand where that might require much higher processing power, and I knew that it couldn't when I bought it. But other than the 2 major flaws mentioned earlier, it's a nice, fast way to get something transferred to DVD. When I want perfection, I use my computer for recording, editing, and burning. But compared to a computer, I would say the VRD-MC6 saves at least an hour per DVD, and also saves the cost of a powerful computer and video input box. Not to mention the technical skills involved. I would love to see Sony add sound previewing and better disc preview options, including full scanning and end preview, and it would be perfect. Add the ability to play back commercial DVDs and it would be a MUST HAVE device!
