I recently owned the same exact headphones, but with out the handy volume control. Me and my headphones lived happily enjoying music until my headphones met my lawn mower. This meant i needed new headphones, but with a volume control for my ipod shuffle. Now i really enjoy listening to my ipod nano and shuffle with only one pair of headphones. I really enjoy the sound quality, especially the bass.

Pros:
Decent sound, customizable ear buds
Cons:
Not Durable
Twenty seven days. Could not even make it four weeks with these before having problems. The biggest one being the touch controls stopped working for no reason. Then the jack kept slipping from the device. Stupid me threw away the receipt. STAY AWAY from these headphones.

Pros:
Sound Quality/Value
Cons:
None so far
I already own the Sony MDREX-300 and have been very impressed with the dynamic range and comfort over long periods. When I upgraded to the Itouch with Voice Control I began looking for something of equal quality with the added features the remote control provides. These MDR-RX38ip earbuds are almost indistinguishable in sound despite the smaller driver. They feel slightly different in the ear but no less comfortable. For only $29 they are a full $50 less than the EX300. Trust me, you will be hard pressed to hear any difference! Check out the specs for yourself but the proof is in the sound. These sound just as amazing as the more expensive unit.

Pros:
Good sound.
Cons:
Breaks easily.
Much like a lot of reviewers on here, I noticed that after a couple of months of use, the volume and the mic just stopped working. The headphones still work, but that's not what I bought them for. I would imagine that spending any amount of money on a particular item that it would go without saying that they should be better made and for this, with a brand name like Sony, I am thoroughly disappointed that I'm out of $40 for this purchase.
I can assure you that I'm very apprehensive about purchasing another Sony product after this. For the amount I spent, I expect better.

Pros:
Comfortable, durable, nice sounding mic
I had these for six months. I have worn them for five hours straight with no complaint. The sound is really crisp but not too high sensitive. They are pretty durable too, I left them in my pocket and they went through the washer and dryer just fine. The second time killed them though. I really like the sony sound and I will buy sony's again.

Pros:

Cons:
silicone covers fall off easily
These are great ear buds all around. I have had mine for almost two ears and they still work beautifully. I have even gotten mine soaked and they still work! I am very impressed with them. Up until i bought these i was going through 2-4 pairs of ear buds a year, if not more. Plus they are quite noise canceling even though they aren't really built to be. I love them and will buy another pair when they do break!

Pros:
Microphone Quality is Good, Great Overall Comfort, Buttons Work Well, No Overbearing Bass
Cons:
Cheap Material, Extremely Harsh High Frequencies (mainly "ess" sounds so around 5kHz), thin cables
I got this pair for Christmas and was thoroughly surprised. I wasn't expecting much though for a $40 set with a remote, which is extremely nice to have, I was expecting a better change than the stock iPhone headphones.... And there was change alright. The bass was brought out a little more but not to the point of where it gets annoying, but the mods were pretty much left the same. The Highs around 5kHz+ made me wince everytime I had my headphones at normal level. They hurt and now I have to get used to listening to my headphones lower because Spotify doesn't have an Equalizer. Other than that, the headphones are good and you get what you pay for...

Cancels out noise really well, fits snuggly into ears, comfortable to use, romote is easy to use, light weight
Cons:
DOES NOT LAST LONG within the the first 2 mths of using this product it broke, exchanged and 3 mths later... it broke
Absolutely love this product in terms of the usage and what not. However, I have never abused it nor was I ever rough with it & it just breaks on it's on. Durability was approx 2-3 mths w/ moderate usage approx 3-4x/wk for 1-2hrs while traveling. I have an older Sony headset that was bought 6+ yrs ago & it still works today! I expected better Sony!

Cons:
the bass/music quality
i bought these cause i really liked the mdr-ex35 and its bass/sound quality. it turns out a $20 headphones have a better quality than a $40 headphones. i am really bummed that i spent the money on these, when it turns out its not really that good. the only good thing about it is the mic and the iPod remote. i would not recommend it to a friend, but i would recommend the sony mdr-ex35

Pros:
Good Sound
Cons:
Not durable
I love the sound I get from these headphones but they are not durable. I bought mine on 3/31/2010 and just pass the 90 day warranty part of an earpiece broke off. I wear them 3 times a week when working out and have never mistreated them. I would have expected them to last longer than 3 1/2 months.

Cons:
Do not buy these earbuds!
Do not purchase this earbuds! After 8 months of normal use, the left side stopped working. I called customer service and they were rude and not willing to help. Do yourself a favor and try another brand because judging from the reviews, this is a common occurrence. Why don't they fix this product!??

Pros:
Don't blow easily, decent sound quality, strong bass
They easily beat out Skullcandy, Apple, and Altec Lansing earbuds of similar price. I have extensive experience with recording, live sound, producing, and djing and can honestly say these are pretty good. The best thing about them is that I have been putting these things through insane bass on full volume for three years and they still have not blown. Obviously they are not studio quality but as far as fourty dollar earbuds go these are more than satisfactory.

Pros:
When they worked they were quite good apart from the usual ear strain after about 1hour of listening
Cons:
Extremely poor quality
I have always been a loyal Sony customer, buying thier products over their competitors and now this is what I get in return... After owning a pair of these earphones the right side (the side that does not have the remote attached) is now officially dead, I have always treated my products especially the Sony ones like my prized possession so I made sure that nothing went wrong with them like if it ever rained I would store them away if I'm out an about and now all of a sudden the one side randomly (with a mind of its own) decides to just stop functioning. All I can follow up from that is disappointed very disappointed.

Pros:
Great sound quality, no earbud problems (I don't blast it like these other kids do), fruit nice
Cons:
Volume up mini-spring inside remote broke after more than a year of use
Love the sound, blocks out some noise, not too much bass. The only problem I could find with it was, in more than good year of frequent use; a spring for the "+" and the middle are failing in the remote.
By the way, I am a lefty, and having the remote on the left earbud cord made this absolutely perfect for me!

Pros:
Great Sound
Cons:
Cheaply made
I have had the earbuds for about 6 months and noticed that the casing by the jack is splitting....they still work but every time I take the headphones and put them in a different devise the split gets bigger. I don"t think I will be replacing them with another sony pair!! I have had other brands that last a lot longer and are cheaper!!!!!

Pros:
Well designed, good sound, durable.
Cons:
None.
I've never had anything bad to say about these headphones. I happened across them when a friend of mine had just upgraded and so he decided to give me his old pair of these.
The sound quality is great overall. That's what was really important to me. It is the best sounding $40 pair of earbuds I've ever heard. And I never had any issue with durability. I'm not a very delicate person either. I biked with these on a regular basis, these things were repeatedly cast into my pockets and bumped around all day, and I never lost audio in either earbud, and the remote has never given me trouble either. I listen to my iPod about 5 hours a day on average (usually more) at a range of different volumes, and even throughout all of that abuse, these things have never blown out.
Overall really great headphones. Durable, great sound, and really well designed too. I would recommend these headphones to anyone and everyone.

Pros:
Fit well, like the volume control/remote control option, like the microphone for skype and phone calls
Cons:
These earbuds do not last.
I like the earbuds for their fit and convenience. However, this product is not made to last, and they're relatively expensive. I am on my third pair in 8 months. Typically, the left earbud (where the volume control, microphone, etc. are located) stop working, making the earbuds mono.

Pros:
Clear sound, Comfortable, iPhone Controls
Cons:
None
I've had these headphones for about 3 months and use them a few times a week for cycling. I really wanted to be able to easily control my music and answer calls without having to touch my iPhone while I was out cycling, but I hated the stock Apple earbuds. These were a perfect solution for me and worked great...
That was until my controls stopped working as some other people have mentioned in their reviews. The sound was still fine, but I couldn't use the control at all and I thought it was dead. Just as I was about to toss them in the trash I realized that I hadn't checked the headphone jack on my iPhone to make sure it was clean. It was not. I pulled out a fair amount of lint buildup by gently using the end of a paperclip that was probably blocking one of the connectors. I plugged my headphones back in and the contols on the headphones are working perfectly again and I'm back to being happy with my purchase.
So to all of those out there who want to blame their problems on the headphones: CHECK THE HEADPHONE JACK ON YOUR PHONE OR IPOD FIRST TO MAKE SURE ITS CLEAN!

great design, they worked for several months
Cons:
no more volume control after iPhone OS 4 upgrade
I have had for six months and they worked flawlessly and the sound quality was perfect. I loved them.... Suddenly, right after I upgraded by iPhone 3GS to the new OS 4 the volume controls stopped working. What a bummer. Now that I can no longer control the volume from the cord there's no reason to spend the money on these.

Pros:
Good Sound
Cons:
Poor Reliability
The sound performance in these headphones is very good considering the price. However, I only used them for a few months before the right earbud quit working completely. While reading through the rest of the reviews, I noticed that the right earbud has given out for other people as well. When all is said and done, it doesn't matter how good they sound. If they simply quit working after only a few short months, they were ultimately a poor choice of headphones.
