Pros:
Far exceeds my expectation of streaming news, traffic, weather and an alarm clock
I bought this for my 15 year old son. He and his friends are impressed - which says a lot. The streaming music, videos, facebook application and games are a big hit! I am going to purchase one for our kitchen and my husband's office.

Pros:
Streaming Netflix on a Sharp LCD screen, Great Alarm Clock features, Easy to Use
Cons:
No Battery Option
This is a great little Media device. From the Nexflix, Pandora Radio, Google News, Pictures, and Weather to the robust Alarm Clock features including a Dimmer or Power Save feature to have the screen turn off until you touch it again. I really like it so far. I love that I can customize it from my computer if i want to. So apps i find online i can send to my Dash at home and they are ready instantly. If it had a Battery option this would be almost perfect. It still has room to improve with the Apps but i am sure that will come with time.

Pros:
Reasonable price
Cons:
Multi discounts for 2 units
Its about time someone starts thinking outside the box.. Products like these only come from a few suppliers.. Sony has always been one of them... I expect to see an IPAD killer in the future..
PS: Might want to put that capability into your TV's & Laptops...

Pros:
customizable clock radio with lots of media
Cons:
terribly slow, plus underbaked software
navigating menus is painfully slow, and it needs twice the processor. however, it's a courageous step in the right direction.
everything's just a little underbaked. example: there are quite a few alarm tones to choose from :) but half of them stink :( like two nature sounds, that REALLY don't live up to basic expectations. no, you can't wake up to uploaded mp3s. sigh.
1500+ apps! :) i found less than a dozen high quality, suitable apps :(
you can define multiple alarms! :) but only four :( why not more? i want to specify double alarms, and wake up to different radio or news and commentary on different days.
needs a lot more layout customization.
there's no way to grab a custom RSS feed (!) or custom internet radio URL (!!) for some reason. maybe Sony will give us a sweet upgrade?
i'll be first in line for Dash 2.0

Pros:
It seemed it covered my needs
Cons:
not real about the 1000 app Plus the instruction guide does not guide well and the web page either
I find the app are not suited to my needs. You can't see movies and videos has it says in the box. You can't set up gmail has it says and it does not accept your password. So, this is not a useful internet viewer. It looks more a search page more than a viewer. Plus it has to be connected all the time and you can't move it to another place were there's connedtion because you have to carry everything. Plus it does not have a USB cable and does not bring the other connections.

This has to be the hardest and most difficult media anything I have ever used. Won it in a sales contest and will be re-gifting this thing asap. My kids who are very savy couldn't help me figure this out...Sony needs to leave this kind of hardward to apple

Pros:
A Chumby plus streaming videos
Cons:
No way to customize an internet radio stream
As a long term user of a Chumby most of what the Dash does it familiar to me. The addition of the video channels especially the NetFilx, Amazon on Demand & YouTube are great & make it more likely that I'll take it on road trips with me when I know that I'll be gone for more than a day or so & where I'm going has wifi.
My biggest complaint is the inability to customize audio streams. The chumby has as option in the Music section to specify the url of your favorite internet streaming audio server & listen to that channel. For some reason Sony has chosen to leave this out. That option would have been my first choice for the alarms for listening to when I'm doing other things etc.
I can only hope that Sony will enable that option on a new update.

Pros:
not a computer
Cons:
not enough of a media center and $$$
Sony is definitely on the right track. A stand alone system, always on, to use for your most popular applications. However, I think it needs more media connectability with your PC (music, photos and video) and more online applications (like HULU). Price wise, at $200, it's hard to compete with the I-Touch. No battery and 1/64 the memory (compared with a minimum of 8GB with the I-Touch) makes for a very hard sell. I'll have to pass until either the price drops considerably or they address the obvious short comings. I'll be waiting and watching.

Cons:
Portability
What a great bedside alarm clock....I love waking up to streaming internet radio (Grateful Dead or even Pandora!!) I really like the 2 time zone clock, the weather conditions at home and afar and have actually spent a few hours watching movies on Netflix and Amazon!!! The only bummer is moving the unit from one room to another and the amount of time it takes to cycle through and do its' set-up.....maybe I should just buy two more...one for the kitchen and one for the bathroom!!! Hint, hint Sony..(% off coupons for multiple unit purchases!!) Hoping the apps will grow up with time.....

How do I get started making an app for the Dash? It says 1000 apps already but I'm not finding the dev kit anywhere. Cheers!
Response from Sony Style
By Gina, Sony Style Blog Editor, 23-Jul-2010
Hi olextraplus , thanks for posting. If you head to www.sony.com/mydash you'll be able to check out the apps and also get some info on our upcoming developer community. This is a "beta site" so please keep that in mind :as its still under construction :-)
This should be launching soon and it's here that you'll be able to get the SDK to create your own apps. Feel free to email me at sonystyleblog at am.sony.com for more info. Excited to see what everyone thinks about the Dash when they hit shelves this week! Thx again

Cons:
No Memory Stick or AM/FM radio
I got my DASH Personal Internet Viewer this past weekend and I love it. It's cute. And, I like the variety of apps that are currently available, but I think that there are two very important features which would round out this little device to make it a powerhouse in any room.
The DASH desperately needs a SanDisk or Memory Stick slot and an AM/FM radio. Currently, the USB for photos, music, and video are not working. There's a marker which says, "Coming Soon." A Memory Stick would allow for pictures, music, and video to reside on the DASH.
I'm using the DASH in my bedroom, where I use the alarm feature. I would like to be awakened to my local radio station, which doesn't broadcast on the Internet.

Pros:
Good gadget may uses
Cons:
none so far
I went to the consumer electronics show and saw the Dash in real, the quality of the picture is really good, you can use as a frame, alarm clock and customize to show the weather of any area that you want, also you can add your email or calendar as an application, so when you are getting ready to work you can check your calendar to review meeting without have to wait for the computer to go on !! it’s always ready !!, The design size is pretty good, no big as a computer and not so small that you cannot see, (honestly I don’t see myself watching a picture on my iphone), the body back cover is made out of a non-slip material, I see this product replacing my alarm clock and photo frame, it has a really good looking design, thanks Sony !

Cons:
no portability as infered
You picture this device all over the house. That is very misleading. When a desktop item get plugged in it stays there. This device needs batteries. Good try no buy. And I buy them all.

This product sounds very cool. I am surprised there aren't other devices like this on the market. However, the lack of a memory stick slot seems weird for a Sony product.

Hi Digibob , Thanks for posting. It's great to see so much dialogue around the Dash including the feedback. I wanted to let folks know the Dash does have a USB 2.0 slot so you can use do stuff like view your photos via USB. Hope that info is helpful and thanks again for sharing your feedback. I'm excited to see what everyone thinks as the Dash begins arriving on doorsteps!

This is a complete rip-off of the Chumby™...Compare for yourself.

Sony dash: $200, free apps (hidden fees), ugly case(no color choice), NOT portable, limited to Sony's apps, no versatility beyond what Sony has(tethered to Sony for life of product)
Chumby: $120-$150 (depending on version-free shipping), various cases (fully customizable WITH instructions), Portable and Chargeable, 1000s of truly free apps and ability to design your own with a free dev kit.

Pros:
Good idea
Cons:
imperfect implementation
I have not seen this device in the flesh yet but I have to say I would agree with the other reviewers about its strange limitations. also I have mixed feelings about seeing all the lukewarm reviews on SONY's site. On the one hand, SONY has certainly brought honest feedback into the picture. On the other, one wonders why SONY didn't consider these sorts of objections before creating the product.... All of them are pretty obvious after all.
