Cons:
proprietary wi-fi adapter
Forcing customers to use a proprietary wi-fi adapter is shameful. I have just purchased a blu-ray player w/wi-fi from Costco but will be returning it tomorrow.

I dont have any issues connecting the device but what is the point. There is nothing interesting that is available w this device. I would love to watch basketball with this device but the only perprogramed sport option is hockey :(. I got this devise as a gift so I can't complain about the price but here I have a wifi tv and I won't be able to use the Internet option. What is the point ? If for the film rental, why would I pay 4.99 when I can get the same movie from the supermarket kios for 1 buck . Plus Netflix has no new movies. Again what is the point of making my tv wifi if there is nothing interesting to watch on it. What is the point????

I'll get it next christmas
I was given a Sony Blu Ray player for Christmas partially because it was wifi capable and I would be able to use netflix with it. I didn't know that the wifi adapter was almost as much as the blu ray player! I guess next Christmas I can get the wifi adapter. How does Sony justify an $80 adapter?!

Complete and Total Ripoff
I have been an avid sony user my entire life. I have purchased 2 3D blu-ray players only to find that they need 2x $80 ($160) worth of adapters to make them work. I have had enough. Thank you Sony for making me a customer of another company.

Pros:
very good range, easy to install and configure, high-speed wireless N transmission
Cons:
priced a bit too high
I use this adapter on our newer 40" Sony Bravia and our Sony Blu-ray home theater system. It works very well and is even compatible with dual-band wireless N transmission (2.4GHz and 5GHz). I use the latter via our Apple Airport Extreme router, which seems to increase reliability and speed because most wireless devices still operate in the 2.4GHz band. You can search "2.4GHz v. 5GHz" to research further. In any event, I would recommend this item, although I would purchase from Amazon again because Amazon offers at least some discount and free shipping.

Pros:

Cons:
Not At All Value For Money
All through my life, I was and will always be a SONY fan. But that doesn't mean that SONY hijacks my decision to go for another company device, whenever I feel like. Making the blu-ray player to use SONY's proprietary USB Network adaptor was such a move and I am forced to spend a fortune on the SONY devise rather than buying good stuffs which are available in a cheaper price.
You are indeed a good company having reputation all around the world. Trying to monopolize might bite you back. This is my humble opinion. Because, my loyalty to SONY has already come down !!!

Pros:
there are no pro's
Cons:
$80 for a $10 item
You have to buy Sony's wireless LAN adapter for $80 when any one should work and does work for other manufacturers. I am taking back my Blue-Ray payer and buying the Vizio that is $15 more and has wireless built in. Typical corporate short sightedness. I will not buy another Sony product again!

Cons:
I can't stream media
After realizing I cannot stream my movies from my laptop due to the format (Divx, AVI, MKV) I'm not sure why I would want to be wirelessy connected to the interenet. None of the media channels (youtube, etc.) are of enough interest to bother. Is Sony going to upgrade the firmware with relevant codecs??

Pros:
Worked for a bit
Cons:
Doesn't do anything now
I've had this adapter plugged into my KDL-EX711 for a year and a half. Worked great out of the box for about 3 months. Gradually over time, the signal from my router would get weaker. Replaced the router, and made no difference. Replaced router again 6 months later hoping this would help, but no difference. New router has incredible range.. I can walk 100ft down the street and still connect with my tablet. No luck with the tv. This adapter is a waste of time and money. I've noticed the other reviews seem to state the same fact.

I have to chalk this up to my naivite'...I did not read the reviews. I spent $2600 on my Sony Bravia less than 4 yrs ago...I thought why buy another TV if this one could be WIFI ready? Well, even though it has a USB port, I see no indication that it is WIFI capable. My bad...caveat emptor!

Have to have this to really use the player the way it was intended
This is a total ripoff! Someone should investigate this bait and switch. You have to have this triple overpriced adapter to make use of wireless connection to the player. A decent wireless N adapter is around $20 and here they have it for $79!!!! And it is proprietary, you have to use the Sony adapter!!!! Sony is now losing a lifelong customer, I have had 3 Sony TVs and have also bought every PlayStation from 1-3 as well as tons of games along the way.I would recommend going with some other brand if this is the way they treat their customers. I am totally disgusted with the greed they have shown with this product. Buyer Beware!!!!!!

Pros:
Sleek Design
Cons:
Worthless if setting up in different room from wireless router
I own a Sony Bravia HD 3D TV and a Sony Laptop which I love! Purchased a Sony Blue-Ray DVD player for $80 only to find out after purchase I needed this pricey adapter. Wouldn't be complaining about the price if it worked without timing out within 5 minutes or just plain won't connect to the Internet. My DVD player is located in an upstairs bedroom. Needless to say the adapter will be returned and the device given away to someone as a gift. I'll purchase a different brand that will work seemlessly.

OVERPRICED, NON FUNCTIONAL RUBBISH
Purchased a WIFI enabled TV but cannot connect it to your wireless internet?, you will now need to buy the overpriced sony dongle to connect it, but make sure the TV / Dongle is in the same room as your router, ideally right next to each other as the signal is very very weak and will not work if your tv and router are in different rooms. You can hardwire it to get around the problem (lan cable) or do as i did, return the tv for a refund and buy alternative brands from here on in.

Pros:

Cons:
None so far
I have been a technology geek for many years, and what I learned was to DO MY HOMEWORK! I bought the Sony Blue-Ray player BDP-S370, knowing it was a player with the wireless option, and was cheaper to buy then the next step up (S570). I got the player on sale, and found the adapter online at a 3rd party site for less than sold at BB, or Sony direct. If people wanted the entertainment to be completely wireless, then spend the extra $ to get it that way.

Price
Sony has crossed many lines by forcing customers to buy this product to complete the WiFi enabled claim for their products. There is absolutely no reason imaginable to limit other products to using this overpriced, average performing USB WiFi adaptor. At twice the price of a 3rd party adaptor, the Sony adaptor offers no advantage. I spent the same amount of money (less, actually) on a Wireless-Ethernet Game Adaptor to accomplish exactly the same purpose without needlessly lining Sony's pockets. And this comes from a long-time loyal Sony customer who owns many Sony TV's and Blu-Ray players including three (3), yes three original BDP-01 players purchased the DAY they were released. I'm not a happy camper.

Pros:
It functions as designed
Cons:
Value, comes with unnecessary stand and cable
Seems that the internet enabled Bravia components would come with this, as most features that are "built in" cannot be used without an internet connection. Could possibly use the existing LAN port on my EX700, but wireless is pretty much the norm... I think. Once plugged in to the TV, all worked well though did have to update the software on the TV for all features to be available. Price is competive with similar products, so not sure what that issue seems to be about. Sony should consider getting away from proprietary supporting products though... remember the Betamax?

So I get my new WiFi Blu-Ray player, and when I open the box, it turns out that a PROPRIETARY wireless WAN adapter is needed to make the thing actually WORK. This is Sony stealing my money - plain and simple. There are lots of less expensive LAN adapters around, but ONLY Sony's will work. STEALING

Sony locked up their wi-fi dongle to make it propitiatory. Must purchase their adapter to achieve wi-fi connectivity for around $70 dollars. I will be taking back this BDP-BX38 Blu-ray player for a Panasonic player that has built in wi-fi (no adapter necessary) for less money than the combined cost of Sony's player and dongle.

Pros:
Stable and reliable 5Ghz connection
Cons:
A little pricey
I'm not sure why this device is getting such poor reviews other than some folks expect it to do something it isn't designed to do. The built in wireless in my XBR55hx929 is 2.4Ghz. While this is fine for short-term internet access I really needed a 5Ghz connection with the router for a stable channel to stream HD movies. You also must be certain your router can broadcast 5Ghz and you have a fast enough internet connection with your ISP to make it worthwhile. If you do, this little USB connector works great and gives you just what you need for internet movie streaming over wireless. You do have to use the dongle and position the receiver up and away from the TV itself to avoid interference and get a good signal but that is common with many USB receivers. I just plugged in the device, configured the connection and it works just fine. I think it's funny, what goes around comes around, 50 years ago we streamed video using a device called an antenna. I haven't had an antenna on the TV for 20 years. Now I have a top-of-line, state-of-the-art HDTV and I need to put up an antenna... only now we call it a wireless adapter. LOL. At least I don't have to climb around on the roof to install it. Seriously, this is a good little device. Do your homework first and it should work fine for you.
