Pros:
Price, inputs, remote, ease of installation and configuration
Cons:
no 8 ohm to 4 ohm switch
Very easy to install and configure. I had limited budget so I bought Sony STR-DH520 receiver, Kenwood KS-3200HT-BK speakers and Kenwood SW-40HT-BK subwoofer.
I connected my components like this:
TV-Sony Receiver: hdmi
Computer-Sony Receiver: hdmi
sattelite receiver-Sony receiver: spdif
computer-Sony Receiver: spdif
All I had to do was connect speakers and subwoofer to Sony Receiver and then rest of components to Sony Receiver. I did auto calibration and everything worked like a charm.
Sound is very good, soft but with enough power. I really believe that I made "best buy" purchase

Pros:
EASY SET-UP: EXCELLENT SOUND: BRAVIA SYNC
Cons:
None Found!
Every Sony product I have purchased has always lived up to its name, I purchased a Sony DVD player in 2000 and to date it is still performing to its max with never no problems. I recently purchased this new STRDH520 and it is everything and more than I expected it to be. Sound adjusts with whatever Sony system I turn on, be it my Sony 40" Bravia or Sony Blu-Ray player. What really makes this great is the "Bravia Sync" - One Remote to use for all systems. The set up of this stereo is simple, the 7.1 surround is outstanding & I know that this will be used for a very long time. I buy SONY for there is no other!

Pros:
Sized perfectly with other components, 6 HD inputs (4 HDMI + 2 Component), pretty good sound field selection
Cons:
Does not upscale standard video to 1080i, video response a bit slow.
I got this for a real bargain, open box special minus the remote $149.00. I purchased the remote from Sony for only $25.00 for a total cost of $174.00. My old Harman Kardon receiver lost its left front speaker channel so I needed a replacement with HDMI and not too much money. Sony fit the bill perfectly. It sounds great with my satellite speakers, and I have all my video connections via HDMI. I have it hooked up to my old Sony 51KPWS520 rear projection t.v. and the remote works both the receiver and t.v. When I select a different video input, it is a little slow in the response. The receiver is perfectly sized as it matches the width of all the other video components, (cable box, Blu-ray, HD-DVD player). Definitely this receiver is above entry level, and for the right price, you can't go wrong with it.

Pros:
Syncs with my TV and BD player
Cons:
None so far
Got a great deal on this from Amazon at $200 off retail. Set up was a breeze and synching with my TV and Bluray was flawless, The auto calibrate was incredible. Only had it for a month so haven't had any problems yet. Bought this for the 7.1 output and all the new sound settings available on the new blu-rays. Pass thru is great and my system has never sounded better. Using it with Onkyo 7.1 speakers, Sony 46 EX500 TV and Sony BDP-S580 Bluray player.

Pros:
Ease of connections
Cons:
No headphone output
This unit replaced a different manufacturer, easy to set up and start using. The sound was great right from the start. You should spnd a little time making sure levels to all speakers are what you want for your environment, you can tailor levels to your liking, a great feature.

Pros:
The easiest use/setup
Cons:
no auto calibrate
ok bad stuff first, no auto calibrate...but take an hour to do it your self and the results are better then the A.C. anyway.
To the good, audio return channel on the HDMI means no optical line with the HDMI. i am running a mix of onkyo speakers and Jamo bi-directional surround speakers; the result is excellent... get the matching sony blu-ray player and life is easy. it can over heat so make sure you properly vent...other than that enjoy!!

Pros:
Straightforward set-up; great sound;
Cons:
lack of auto calibration for US product;
While set up was straightforward I thought I was getting a product with the auto speaker calibration. Only after reading the manual did I learn that option wasn't available to US products. That being said, manual calibration and speaker setup was pretty easy and the resulting sound is great! Two things should be included in the product manual for troubleshooting. After hookup to my KDL55HX-800 I had no sound. Followed all actions listed in TV and receiver manual with no success. My cable company then said check the DVR menu setting to ensure it is on HDMI. Once I updated that setting to HDMI I had great sound! Second, I had trouble at "Amp,TV, DVR turn-on", using my Cable DVR remote, with speakers going to TV rather than staying on Audio System as the setting called for plus the receiver audio setting moving from amp setting to TV & amp setting. Sony e-support said not compatible remotes so would have to use two remotes. Did not have that problem with my prior STR-DE485 so figured it should work. After experimenting I found by changing my Cable DVR remote turn-on sequence to TV, AMP, CABLE from AMP,TV,CABLE my speakers stayed on external audio system and I still controlled sound levels as well as video with one remote. Makes the wife much happier also having to only use the one remote! All in all very happy with purchase and would recommend the product. I wrote Sony about my troubleshooting suggestions re sound problems. Am doubtful anything will change in the manual(s). Enjoy!
