  • Best-in-Class Resolution

Bigger sensors equal better pictures. The NEX-7 boasts a huge, 24.3MP APS-C sensor—the same size sensor used in most DSLRs—for ultra-high resolution and incredibly-detailed photos that make for gorgeous enlargements. With a sensor 13 times larger than the average compact camera, the NEX-7 offers the image quality and performance of a DSLR in about half the size and weight.

  • 10 Photos in One Second

Whether shooting a sequence of your preschooler's somersault, or the game-changing instant when ball meets bat, you're sure to capture the most critical moments with up to 10 fps continuous shooting at full 24.3MP resolution (exposure and focus fixed at the first frame). It's ideal for high-speed sports photography or capturing the fast, fleeting moments other cameras miss. Standard continuous shooting is also available at up to 2.5 fps.

  • Make HD Movie Magic

Record crystal-clear HD movies in super-smooth 60p, standard 60i or richly-cinematic 24p—all at Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution (records in 29-minute segments). Shoot in the industry-standard AVCHD™ codec for stunning fast-motion video with reduced distortion, or choose the web-friendly MP4 format for easy uploading to sites like Facebook® and YouTube™.

  • Control at Your Fingertips

Looking for a quick and intuitive way to set aperture, exposure, ISO and more—faster than ever? Three Tri-Navi control dials put everything at your fingertips for convenient manual control of aperture, exposure, ISO and more. You see the results instantly through the viewfinder or on the camera's tiltable 3.0" LCD. It's the perfect feature for experienced photographers who want immediate, hands-on access to up to three controls at once.

  • World's First OLED Viewfinder

There's never been anything quite like the Tru-Finder™ OLED electronic viewfinder, which brings eye-level, through-the-lens viewing to the NEX-7. Boasting 2359K dots and a high contrast ratio for top resolution and unprecedented brightness, images pop with clarity and detail making it easier than ever to compose your shots. You can even see the results of camera adjustments in real time through the viewfinder.

  • Fascinating Picture Effects

At my advanced age, it probably doesn't make sense to buy yet another camera since I've owned many since the original little Kodak box camera. But I could not resist and now I have to say this is the very best camera I have ever owned. I doubt I will ever use all the bells and whistles of what it can do - since on auto it is great - but I love the screen and especially the viewfinder which so many cameras no longer have. It takes a great still photo and also videos. I don't need my (Sony) video camera any longer. I had no problem with the packaging - in fact, I thought it was well done. The size of the camera is great and, overall, I am very happy with it. Thank you, Sony!

@NExime Apparently all the shots showing the camera on its left side (if faced from front) does show an external mic input. Here is a link for one example: http://www.dpreview.com/news/1108/11082418NEX7specs.asp This camera has an amazing design and even more amazing features & controls. Please Sony, November is as long away as is, don't let this camera get delayed.

So much more than a pocket camera, the 24.3MP NEX-7 exceeds expectations. Get performance that would give most DSLRs camera envy, including interchangeable lenses, a 2359K dot Tru-Finder™ OLED electronic viewfinder, up to 10fps shooting, and outstanding Tri-Navi™ 3-dial manual control. Record amazing HD movies in super-smooth 60p, standard 60i or cinematic 24p, all at Full HD 1920x1080 resolution.6 Enjoy the stunning imagery the AVCHD codec delivers or use the MP4 codec for smaller file sizes and easier upload to the web. With the same APS-C sensor size as a DSLR, a higher resolution than most DSLRs and the interchangeable lenses that make DSLRs so attractive, the NEX-7 is still just about half the weight and half the size as its DSLR counterparts. The included E-mount 18-55mm lens will have you documenting the touching, the stunning and the inspirational in no time.

World’s first OLED viewfinder

There’s never been anything quite like the Tru-Finder™ OLED electronic viewfinder. For size, speed and brightness even after sunset, this is a gem. This eye-level, through-the-lens, viewfinder begins with 2359K dots for amazing resolution and high contrast ratio for incredible depth. OLED reduces motion blur to a bare minimum. You can also see the results of camera adjustments in real time with superb color and detail.

Full HD Movies6 at 60p/60i/24p

Capture HD Movies in your choice of super-smooth 60p, standard 60i or cinematic 24p, all at Full HD 1920x1080 resolution.6 AVCHD™ codec delivers stunning picture quality. MP4 codec offers smaller files for easier upload to the web.

Built-in pop-up flash

Enjoy the convenience of flash photography everywhere you go. Guide Number 6.

Phase Detect AF with adaptor4

The LA-EA2 lens mount adaptor (sold separately) is the world’s first with Sony’s award-winning Translucent Mirror Technology. This provides super-fast and accurate Phase Detection AF when used with Sony A mount lenses.4

World’s shortest release time lag3

Helps ensure that the image you want is the image you get. Once auto focus occurs, release time lag is the delay between fully pressing the shutter release and when the camera actually starts taking the picture. Long lag makes it harder to capture fast-moving objects. The Sony NEX-7 boasts the shortest release time in the world (as of August 2011) at only 0.02 seconds.

3D Sweep Panorama™ Mode

Capture vast scenic vistas and 16:9 shots in spectacular 3D. As you sweep across the panorama, the camera records separate right-eye and left-eye images that make landscapes come alive on your 3D television7. Records both JPEG and MPO file formats.

Auto HDR

High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography captures more scene contrast than a single exposure can handle by combining the best highlight detail from one shot and the best shadow detail from another for one incredible shot. (Recommended for still subjects.)

iAUTO mode

Unifies and simplifies Sony intelligent technologies. Takes advantage of Intelligent Scene Recognition, Face Detection technology, and Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization without leaving auto mode so you always get the best shot.

Accepts non-Sony lenses via adaptor

You can use the camera with a universe of lenses from Canon, Nikon, Leica, Olympus and others. The success of Sony’s NEX series, combined with the ultra-short 18 mm flange back distance has inspired third-party manufacturers to provide lens adaptors. In addition, Sony has disclosed the E Mount specification to Carl Zeiss, Cosina, Sigma and Tamron.

Stamina™ battery power for up to 400 shots5

Take up to 400 shots on a single charge with Sony® lithium ion Stamina™ battery power (using LCD monitor).5 Sony's InfoLITHIUM® battery system enables you to see the percent of power remaining, so you can keep shooting in confidence.

Ultrasonic anti-dust system

Dust on the image sensor leads to blemishes in the picture. To protect the sensor, Sony incorporates an advanced ultrasonic system, which effectively shakes dust off the sensor surface.

DSLR quality in your pocket

Here’s the same APS-C sensor size as a DSLR, with higher resolution than most DSLRs and the interchangeable lenses that make DSLRs so attractive. Yet the camera is about half the size and weight of a typical DSLR camera. Removing the conventional mirror box and viewfinder makes it possible.

Up to 10 fps shooting

Capture the decisive moment in sports and get the ideal baby photo. Up to 10 fps continuous shooting at full 24.3 MP resolution with exposure and focus fixed at the first frame. Standard continuous shooting at up to 2.5 fps.

HD movies with full manual control

Now you don’t need to surrender control when you shoot HD movies. Enjoy the full expressive potential of Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority or Manual (P/A/S/M) control in HD movie mode.

Hot shoe for α system flashes

Take your photography even further with access to the entire range of Sony α system flashes and flash accessories.

Tiltable 3.0" LCD

Sony's 3.0” Xtra Fine LCD™ monitor has 921K dots for superb resolution. The TruBlack™ screen includes a special resin layer to suppress internal reflections, increasing contrast compared to conventional LCDs. Sunny Weather mode boosts visibility even further. Tilts down 45° and up 80° to frame high- and low-angle shots that would otherwise be hit-or-miss.

Accepts Sony® E-mount lenses

Compatible with Sony’s expanded line of E Mount lenses. These smaller, lighter lenses are specifically designed for α compact interchangeable lens cameras. Opens up a world of creative options.

Sweep Panorama™ Mode

Capture expansive landscapes automatically. Press the shutter, sweep vertically or horizontally. The camera does the rest, continuously shooting images and stitching them together.

P/A/S/M modes for video and stills

Enjoy a full range of controls for video and still shooting from the beginner's iAUTO mode to P/A/S/M: Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual. On-screen prompts help you refine your skills, build your confidence and exercise greater creative control.

BIONZ® image processor

The brain of the camera is a Sony’s BIONZ® image processor substantially upgraded for the demands of 24.3 megapixel photography. Chroma noise reduction delivers high-resolution, low-noise photos even at ISO 16000 sensitivity. Also enables fast processing for up to 10 fps continuous shooting of data-intensive 24.3 MP images, 2D/3D Sweep Panorama™ modes and 6-image layering.

25-point Auto Focus

25 sensors cover a very wide area of the scene, for accurate focusing even when the subject is far from the center of the frame.

Sony Exmor™ CMOS sensor

Sony Exmor™ technology uses column-parallel A/D converters for high resolution and high frame rates. Double noise reduction minimizes image noise, even in low light.

24.3 MP; best-in-class resolution3

You get incredible detail and gorgeous enlargements thanks to a 24.3 megapixel sensor. It’s the highest resolution among pocket cameras as of August 2011.

DSLR-class APS C image sensor

Sensor size is the key to picture quality. The APS C class sensor provides gorgeous imaging with 58% more area than Micro Four-Thirds sensors and an amazing 13 times the area of a point & shoot image sensor.

Tri-Navi™ manual control

Perfect for experienced shooters, Tri-Navi control gives you three separate control dials for direct, hands-on access to three settings at a time. As just one example, the dials can set aperture, exposure compensation and ISO.

Accepts A Mount lenses via adaptors4

Both the LA-EA1 and EA2 adapters (sold separately) allow you to attach the full range of Sony A mount lenses.4

Object Tracking AF

Locks onto a specified object and maintains focus even as the subject moves. Unpredictable subjects stay in focus even while zooming. You can concentrate on composition without worrying about focus.

Peaking function

Manual focus becomes much easier because peaking highlights the edges that are in focus in your choice of three colors (white, red, or yellow). This is especially helpful during macro or portrait photography where your focus setting can make or break your shot.

6-image layering

Leverages the fast BIONZ® processor to capture six images in a fraction of a second, and then combine the data. The result is an incredible single image that controls blur in Anti-Motion Blur mode or gets cleaner, sharper nighttime pictures in Hand-held Twilight mode.

Intelligent Auto Focus

Pre-focuses as you compose the shot, further reducing focusing time to a bare minimum.8

Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO)

Improves results with backlit subjects and recovers details hidden in shadows. Settings include Auto, Level with a choice of five operating levels and Off.

HDMI® output

Enjoy HD movies and stunning still images on a compatible HDTV.9 The camera includes an HDMI® output.

11 Picture Effect modes

Discover innovative ways to make your images and videos pop. These include Posterization, Pop Color, Retro Photo, Partial Color, Soft High-key, High Contrast Monochrome, Toy Camera, Soft Focus, HDR Painting, Rich-tone Monochrome, and Miniature.

Here is a link for one example: http://www.dpreview.com/news/1108/11082418NEX7specs.asp This camera has an amazing design and even more amazing features & controls. Please Sony, November is as long away as is, don't let this camera get delayed.

Not bad, but...

Pros: Sensor, Size,

Cons: LCD, controls

I was looking for something better than a snapshot, but smaller than a DSRL to take on vacations. The NEX series seemed like a great option, BUT.... 1) Image quality on low-light situations could REALLY use an upgrade. High ISO images get very grainy, and any kind of movement kills the pic. So no natural pictures can be takes in the evening - you need to setup everyting first and ask everyone to stand still. 2) The flash has very few settings - it's either really bright, or really bright! So you need to step far away from the image if you just want a little bright. But then the zoom is not always enough. It does not seem Sony thought of the flash together with the low light situations. 3) All settings change have to be done by menu. And even if it does take just a few clicks and you're done... there goes the picture oportunity :o( 4) The video button ALWAYS gets in the way - and in the few situations where you actually want to use it, there's that clicking sound from something loose inside the camera. 4) Since we travel alone, we take a lot of "arm's lenght" self-pics. The 180° tilt LCD from the 5R would be perfect, but it's not there on the 5N, sadly. 5) The image layering does not make for a sharper image, but a blury one. 6) The HDR needs a REALLY GOOD upgrade. Having said all that, I really have always loved Sony cameras. I have a Canon and a Samsung as well, but they just don't compare (I gave them both to my nephews to play with), and I still use my Sony DSC-W300 with the sports pack when scubadiving (any chance of a scuba pack for the Nex series?). I'm considering the Nex-7 now as an upgrade from the 5N (specially for the control options), but would love to see the 5R pack included in it before making the purchase - especially the 180° tiltable LCD and self portrait framing. And of course, since I've already bought extra SD cards, bateries and remonte control for the 5N, it would be great to be able to use them with the new Nex-7. Any replies from Sony would be greatly appreciated! :o)

Great Camera

Pros: Image quality, tri-nav, built quality, size

Cons: Nothing so far

Just got mine today. Wasn't even expecting it because I was rescheduled to get it on the 15th of April. Luckily I got mine. I'm just a beginner. I own the Nex 5 not 5n and just wanted to upgrade because I'm starting to like photography and wanted to learn manual controls. Can't wait to use it for my son and wife birthday party this weekend. Just have to learn how to use the manual first.

Best Camera Purchase To Date

Pros: Light weight, exceptional quality

Cons: Nothing

My original reason for purchasing this camera was I needed something lighter than my Sony A900 that I could take with me everywhere. It is the perfect size and weight for meI. I have only used it for two days and still in awe using this camera. The color, detail, clarity, etc. are superb. Of the few sample videos I have done so far the quality is unbelievable. Can't say much more than it is a bit pricey but well worth every penny.

Worth The Money

Pros: Takes really Amazing looking pictures!!

Cons: Sometimes the Color Effect Dosent work right!

This is a great device. Takes brilliant pictures. This is my 4th Sony camera, before I use to own Cyber shot. This is my first Sony @ NEX series, I have to say this is a good freaking device. Those easy controls comes handy while taking pictures, you dont have to go in the menu to change them, they are right at your finger tip. Dont have to worry about focusing, just keep taking pictures it will focus really good. Also take good pictures in low light.I am adding example for low light pictures Really dont know what else to write, just got this camera like 2 days ago, still exploring this device :D looking forward what else sony will do with NEX series.

Superior Camera

Pros: Excellent quality; Highest quality photos; ease of switching between view finder and view screen.

Cons: Easy to use controls if you have experience using many different cameras.

This.camera is set up with controls that initially appeared confusing since they seemed different from the nikons, canons, and olympus cameras I have. However, now that I have shot several hundred shots with it, I find that it is a composit on the best features plus new ones others don't have. The weight is especially great when shooting candid shots and trekking through the woods looking for animal shots. Not at all disappointing.

AF can't keep up with moving kids

Pros: Good quality photo

Cons: AF can't keep up; limited lens selection

I was looking for a camera that can: - do quality photos and videos, - indoors, kids playing, no flash - in a package smaller then DLSR Sadly, it seems that such camera still does not exist. The NEX7 is pretty good at taking still pictures. The ISO 1600 is quite good, but it starts loosing too much details at ISO 3200. For still pictures AF in low light is adequate, but not spectacular. It has just enough delay to make taking pictues of moving kids at f2.8 or below a hit-or-miss proposition. Video was a disappontment. As long as subjects remain within original DOF everything is great, really nice HD video. But AF absolutely can't keep up with moving kids indoors. AF is way too slow at adjusting. Lens selection is simply not there. I ended up with 3 lenses none of which was really what I was looking for. I really wanted something like 18-50 f2.8 and the only way to get it would be by getting 400 CAD adapter and half a kilo alpha lens. Either way, having to swap between 3 differ ent lenses or having to use an adapter and a heavy alpha lens totally defeats size benefits from the NEX system. Overall: + very good still pictures up to ISO 1600 + very good video as long as AF does not have to work during the shot ? egronomics - good, but not as easy to handle as DSLR. - AF can't keep up with moving kids in low light conditions - Lens selection will force many users into using SLR lenses with adapters, eliminating NEX size benefits

Camera Of The Year (I can't wait)

Pros: OLED Viewfinder, 24mp, 10fps, Very Compact

Cons: Backordered (I want one now, but I will have to wait until April)

I had a chance to view the Nex 7 because one of my friends just received his pre-order. Wow, I have a Nex 5 and was about to buy a Nex 5n but I am going to wait and get the Nex 7 after seeing the major differences between the two. I was completely bown away by the OLED viewfinder. lt is clear, just like looking through my Canon 50D viewfinder. The image quality that the Nex 7 produces is amazing, and color reproduction is top notch. The Nex 7 is not a 3/4ths micro toy camera like the competition, this is the first pro level ILC. The Nex 7 is the beginning to the end of traditional DSLRs and issues in the new era of ILC dominance in the professional market. Five years from now everyone will own some type of ILC. Good luck Nikon with your V1 competing with this godlike camera. Canon hasn't even placed a foot in the ILC market because they know that a good ILC will destroy their current line of DSLRs. I know that the Nex 7 is exactly the camera that Canon was fearing. I can't wait until April.

NEX 7

Pros: Small, easy to use, has great lenses

Cons: Would love a better zoom but don't want one that is 4 feet long.

I am not a professionsal. I wanted a camera that would take great pictures with a great zoom and carry it in my purse. (For me the A55 was too big.) IF I want manual, I have it, but usually I am so busy capturing a shot I just want to click and not make adjustments. The shots I get (24 pixel)are phenomenal and I am amazed everytime I load them into my computer. The NEX7 is an improvement over the NEX5 that had no view finder and the zoom lens caused a shadow when using the flash. I shoot every day now knowing the quality of picture I will get.

Still Waiting

Pros: really awesome camera that will fulfill all my requirements

Cons: The unconfirmed release date.

Dear sony, can you please provide your loyal customer out there about the ACTUAL release date for this Sony Nex 7? As sony will be my first semi-pro camera, I would wait for it to be release... but the un-confirm release date of this camera is forcing me to decide other brand of camera such as Nikon DSLR or Canon... If possible, please confirm the exact release date of the camera... =( Thank You.

The wait is killin'!

Pros: Wish to know

Cons: Wish there's none

Currently have Sony DSC-W200 Super Steady Shot 12.1 mp. Nice pictures, except for the low light ones. Never had DSLR in my life, however, money is not an issue, but it is very important for me to have a hand-sized camera with picture/size/movie/quiality camera. Good luck to new owners of Nex-7 with their purchase!

A real Move Up- Except

Pros: High res-

Cons: No external Mike options-

The Nex 5 was the best camera I ever owned. It replaced both a DSLR and a point and shoot. The Nex 5 was going to replace a larger DSLR we were using for a documentary - but the sound options on the Nex 7 appear to be to limited and limiting. The other camera has much more in lens options as well, at a better price. Way better but not worth almost double the price of a Nex5

NEX-7

Pros: light weight, intuitive controls, great feature sets and TRI-NAVI

Cons: none so far

I've been the proud owner of a NEX-7 for a month now and I'm thoroughly happy with my purchase. The camera is a huge step over my old Sony point and shoots, it allows me to bring my level of photography another step up. This camera will definitely "grow" with me as my skill level develops. The weight and portability of the NEX-7 is simply amazing. I can bring it everywhere, unlike my friends "canon" sized DSLRs :) I have the 18-55mm kit lens and it works just fine for my day to day needs. When I need something a bit more, I just add a Novoflex adapter and Zeiss ZM 50mm lenses for that extra something special! Next up is a Zeiss ZM 15 and 35mm. If you have the means to get this camera, you won't be disappointed if you're coming from the point and shoot world.

Not as good as I had hoped that it would be

Pros: Size, Weight

Cons: Menus

I had a Nex-5N which had a software problem and took some good/some bad pictures. I waited for a long time for the Nex-7 to become available and I'm a little disappointed. The adjustments are somewhat difficult to find because of the menus and it doesn't take the quality of pictures that I had hoped for. The camera is very solid, very light (given it's capabilities) and very easy to hold. The flash is difficult to adjust for exposure...again, because of the menus. I think I will keep this camera but I wish I had tried a digital slr before I had purchased this one. Outdoor photos are good to very good. Indoor photos are unpredictable but mostly good except when using the external flash. The external flash (HVL-F20AM) tends to either cause a photo that is too light or too dark. The internal flash works will but has (obvious) distance limitations. The lens (Sony, not Zeiss) is very good to excellent.

Seems good

I first learn about NEX-7 from Popular Photography magazine and end up surveying for more info. It seems like a neat camera and thought it'd be the perfect travel mate for me. I called in and ask if it'd reach me before my trip abroad. The gentleman on the other side (Sony) thinks it's possible. Crossing my fingers i just ordered it. I hope and pray i could get it before March 15, 2012.

Remote shutter control interface

Pros: Maybe there is one

Cons: Maybe there is not an interface

A remote shutter control interface is a pretty important feature. Ask about this feature when buying a camera like this one or any camera you intend to use for creative photography. You cannot find this information in the specs on Nex cameras. I have always bought and owned Sony cameras with varying degrees of satisfaction, however I bought a Nex 3 and then (within 60 days of purchase) learned sometimes it is very important to use a remote shutter release. However the my camera did not have that interface. Very frustrating. A point and shoot you might not care, but cameras like DSLRs and Nex's you will care very much.

Amazing IQ

Pros: Has everything a DSLR has in a smaller package

Cons: Need higher quality pancake lenses

I was interested in getting the NEX-5N for the longest time and will probably still get one plus the RX100. I didn't need the 24mp and was worried more about the low light. Seeing this on sale with accessories tempted me to make the purchase earlier this month. Having shot photos and videos in Yosemite for over a week, I was blown away by the image quality when I opened them up on Macbook Pro. There is still a lot to learn but with enough light, the kit lens does a great job. I also just got the zeiss though I haven't shot with it yet. My previous camera was a Powershot S100 and I have used the T3I but there's something about this camera's images . High ISO shots are pretty good though auto modes seem to push up the ISO even in bright light. The handling with the Tri Navi controls makes things much easier. And the video is great. I have a HC1 which was pretty good except indoors but this one is amazing. I love the 60p capability. And the OLED EVF. I didn't really get what the reviews were raving about when I looked through it in the Sony Store. But, outside in daylight when I looked through it at Glacier Point... wow. I used to love my S100 and was nervous about switching for my still camera. But, this is an amazing buy and an absolute joy. Great Job, Sony. You are pushing the envelope constantly and making it available for advanced users at a reasonable price. Thank you!
