Beautiful image quality, elegant design. Looks like viewing thru a window. As a suggestion, it would be good to include a couple of pair of 3D glasses.

I bought it a few days ago and it's stunning, Avatar looks like it comes out of your TV and PS3 games are the best. I have it connect it with an Onkyo HTX surround system, honestly.. I can't ask for more. Bullet shots & bombs on Battlefield 3 are as real as it gets.
It will only get better with the new mirroring feature from Mountain Lion. You get to work on your 55 hd TV..
Get the 2012 model, its a huge difference from 2012, at least design-wise.

Pros:
It's clear when it's lit up during a bright seen.
Cons:
But you can see burned spots on a dark seen.
I can show you a picture.
But you can look for one on the internet
I'm even thinking of returning it and getting a different brand unless they fix it or give me a new one without this defect.

Pros:
Looks good
Cons:
Opens late. Shuts off by itself. Internet works slow. Cant navigate internet.
I bought this TV about a month ago. It looks very nice but works horrible. Every time I power it on it takes two minutes to get it going even to change a channel or input source. Its harder to go on the apps or any online related think once you power it it takes about 3 to 4 minutes. Web browser is horrible. You can not navigate the browser with the remote and they dont sell any wireless keyboard or mouse for it. I would not recommend this smart tv.

Pros:
Great picture, nice look
Cons:
Speakers, web browser, media player, only sony 3d glasses
Ok. Everyone said tons of good stuff about this TV. Won't lie it is awsome. Before I purchased it had a dilema between hx950 (which costs $1200 more#, samsung un60es8000 #which is samsung and doesn't have local dimming# anad this one. Went with this one. And yes I am happy at a certain level. Picture is great, design is great, menu is ok. Sound, wuau I was shocked. My 2005 KDL40v2000 model had a better sound than this one. I think SONY could spend couple more bucks on the sound of this TV. Next was menu. I think it's just ok. Just to get to browser or pandora, you have to press 158 times on remote buttons. Next is browser itself. No flash, come on? apple way?? and the last thing #at least for me) - won't play MKV format files. They should do it if they want to keep up with other brands. At some point local dimming might not be a saver in the future. SONY PLEASE hear me and get a software update, so TV has a better browser and could play any type of media file, it;s mandatory these days.
3D would be the best if I didnt have to spend and extra $100/pair for a glasses. But it;s not a complaint.... :) peace!!!!!

Pros:
PQ is awesome
Cons:
Speakers
Just got the set 2weeks ago and I'm blown away by this tv. If your on the fence about this tv don't be. Was gonna buy a Samsung before I got to actually see this beast in action and was convinced this was the tv for me. Oh and don't worry about the gorilla glass being to reflective, it's a non issue so don't worry about that at all. If your gonna get this tv have it calibrated to get the most out of it, even though settings are great out of the box. Just finished watching Avengers on bluray on this tv and it is unbelievable how awesome it looks.

Pros:

Cons:
no 3d glasses? come on sony
I love this TV. The picture is one of a kind and the performance is awesome. (i also own a ex710 model and its still running great so that tells you sony is amazing.) if u are going to buy a sony i strongly recommend this TV. The only thing i dont like is that its a 3D TV and u get no glasses with it like other brands offer. Plus the glasses are very very expensive. sony please consider lowering the price on the glasses, itll cot me 500 dollars for my family to watch a 3d movie. all in all the sony hx850 is a great tv and is worth the money.

Pros:
design, picture quality, build quality and smart features..
Cons:
remote not backlit
Hi after lot of research and demos of sony, panasonic, lg and samsung top end tvs i found Sony the best. This tv deserves the Sony name on it. It reminds me of Sonys excellent trintron tvs. Keep it up and now just launch Sony Bravia HX950 we all are waiting for it and yes OLEDs and crystal leds as well. Love Sony. Long live Sony. Sonys biggest fan.

Pros:
Picture Quality, "smart" tv
Cons:
Menu sometimes sluggish
We got this tv to replace a projection tv that was dying. Both the old set and this set were 55 inch 1080P tvs, but the picture quality of the HX850 blows the old tv away. The colors are more vibrant the blacks are extremely deep. We do not use the streaming services very often, but we have not experienced any problems the few times we have. I love the way the tv and my Sony Blu-ray integrate, the input switches to the Blu-ray when the device is powered on and returns to it's original setting when the unit is turned off!

Pros:
Great picture, easy operation, simple wiring
Cons:
Sound is low, consider a sound bar for this TV.
Out of the box it appears smaller than than previous models of the same size. The 3-D is dramatic. I am sold. I did not know 3-D was that good. I did get a sound bar and it made all the difference. No hassle setting up with the Bar. Throwing video from S-tablet is better, smoother, no jitter, than the tablet. DLNA is very good, it plays video files other products don't. It does not recognize 3-D DVDs as 3-D when played from an L series PC. The internet access is very good and clean for the canned apps, cumbersome for www sites, the remote is like sending text from an old cell phone, get the tablet or Smart phone for the remote feature. I very happy with this buy.

Pros:
Sleek Design, Incredible Picture Quality
Cons:
Poor Sound, No 3D glasses
The picture clarity, colors, blacks and details are eye opener. I wish the sound was little better. I have not tried 3D yet. We had this TV for a week and we love it.

Pros:
Picture Quality Best Blacks On An LCD/LED
Cons:
sound
Bought this T.V on sale from the Sony Black Friday sale, $1799.00. Was delivered before the due date! Coupled it with the Performa 55" television stand and Sony HTCT550W. Looks great together. (Click on the picture to see whole picture) I spent days at PC Richards and Best Buy looking at televisions until I was cross eyed. PC Richard did not have the T.V. set up correctly and it didn't look to good. Then when I saw it at the Magnolia room at Best Buy set up correctly I was blown away! This television although it is edge lit LED is as good as the higher end Sony full LED and the price was in my budget. I was considering Samsung but I had a bad experience from their customer service a couple of years ago and vowed never to buy Samsung again. I'm glad I didnt. The picture is incredible and the blacks are as good as any plasma! I just cant say enough about this picture. Out of the box the picture is good. Then when I adjusted it, phenominal ! Put picture setting to vivid and toned it down a bit. Picture looks 3D sometimes without being in 3D. Blacks are beautiful black. Speakers like most LCD/LED televisons these days might as well not even be there. If you enjoy watching T.V. get a sound system. The sony HTCT550W worked out great for me. Sounds awesome and almost no wires. Mounted sound bar to the bottom of the horizontal top bar of stand with "L" brackets. It looks like it was meant to be like that. My only complaint is that the T.V volume numbers display twice the numbers of the sound bar receiver. Annoying but can be fixed if Sony does a software update to the T.V. Speaking of sofware update when I connected the WIFI the T.V. did a software update on its own wirelessly. Good to know it has that capability! Set up all the free stuff, Hulu Pandora Crackle, etc etc. It ll works well and the internet browser works on the T.V but I have no real use for that stuff. I have FIOS and all the channels so I didnt need internet T.V. If I need the internet I'll use my deskstop computer. However if something breaks or FIOS goes down I can use these features as backup. Bravia sync was a Godsend for my wife. She is a technical boob and after programing my FIOS remote one button turns cable box, t.v. and sound bar on and off. I'm still exploring the capabilities of all this stuff and will probably find out more in the future. I will be getting a Sony Blue Ray 3D DVD player and 3D glasess in the near future. All I can say is buy this T.V. and you wont be dissappointed!

Overall, I am happy with the operation and quality of this HDTV. I have had a number of Sony TV's over a 25 year period, and this one so far is another winner.

Cons:
Sound could be alot better on it's own..
I love everything about this TV, except the sound. I have to turn it up almost all the way to hear it.... Had to hook it up to sound system. The picture is about the best I've seen. The 3D is amazing compared to other brands of 3D TV's in the family. It gives regular TV shows and sports some depth.. The glasses fit over my own and are light.. I would recommend this product.

Pros:
Picture is the best I've ever seen. Remarkable quality and craftsmanship
Cons:
Absolutely zero
This is like having 4 TV"s in one for me. One for digital stations. One for High Definition that will make your jaw drop open. One for blue ray, so amazing. And finallly blue ray 3'D which is a combination of jaw dropping and unbelievably amazing. I've been watching tv's since the 1960's and I have never run into a tv that is this awesome. The picture clarity of HD. Blue ray Hd and Blue ray 3d is spectacular with extreme clarity and vivid colors and smooth motion all the way. No doubt, the best tv I have ever seen. I highly recommend Sony tv's for all. I called for support one time to make the connection for surround and the customer service lady was helpful and even taught me some new stuff. Keep up your amazing work Sony and Thank you for this amazing product.
