What is Radio Frequency?

Radio Frequency transmission works by sending our radio frequency signals from the transmitter to the headphones. Radio frequency signals allow high fidelity sound reproduction and have a large reception range that does not require keeping the headphones within line of sight of the transmission. Radio frequency signal quality can deteriorate due to external noise and interference in some settings.

Sound

Noise reduction technology reduces interference and neodymium magnets give you a high fidelity sound reproduction.

Design

Comfortable fit with adjustable headband and complete coverage of the ear.

Battery

Supplied rechargeable nickel-metal hydride battery automatically charge by placing the headphones on the transmitter base station; headphones charge via electromagnetic induction charging.

Comfort and quality

Pros: Great sound, comfort, and wireless charging

Cons: Large size if that bothers you, it's great for me, I would like to have a pair at each TV but the price is a bit high

These headphones provide a high quality sound and the large size provides the comfort needed to wear for several hours. They are not heavy and I don't even realize that I'm wearing them after a short while. I highly recommend these for anyone who likes to watch TV in bed and not disturb anyone.

$3 for the packaging

Pros: nothing

Cons: everything

performance: 0 2 main problems. 1/ The other wireless network (radio, wifi, neighboors wifi, etc...) interfer and make scratchy weird noise. 2/ all the ABS parts make loud squeezing sound covering the movie you try to hear, each time a muscle of your face move a little bit. Design:0. It looks goods, but poor plastic conception make squeezing noise. Reliability:0. Tomorrow, it get back to the seller. Value;0. for 3 or 5 dollars, you can have a better sound, in a poor low price headphone

Too Much Static

Pros: Look great and feel good

Cons: Too much static

I decided to buy these since it was a little cheaper than going with the Bluetooth headset. Well as they say you get what you pay for. in this case not much. The build quality is good but the sound is terrible. I'm only 6 feet from the TV and the charging base and I hear static. It will get louder or softer when I turn my head. It doesn't matter where I'm sitting or moving in the living room you still get the static. Very disappointed. It doesn't matter if I have the volume low or high on the headphones. The higher the volume on the headphones the more you hear the static. Save yourself the disappointment and go with a Bluetooth headset.

A disappointment and waste of money

I bought these headphones and can't even get them to work! A total waste of money. They're just riding around in the back of my car. And when I take them back to Best Buy for assistance, they avoid you when then see you carrying them. Unfortunately, I bought them for my cousin, who is in a nursing home, so we had to mark them. So I can't return them. Warning: DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THESE!!!

Still Good

Got this headphone for more than 2 years ago from a sony store. I only used the phone for less than a year and put this aside after i bought my second tv and my kid don't need it anymore. Lately, my kid ask for it again and this time I tried connecting it back to my home theater in the room. At first I experienced a hissing sound on top of the actual dialogue on tv show I watched and I nearly believed on one of the product reviews here about the hissing sound. I have a wifi at home also to cater our wireless needs and might be causing interference. But after the battery had fully charged, the hissing sound dissapeared and now it worked fine. Also the headphone jack need to have a good contact with the tv/home theater headphone socket and simply applies to any connection. I should say, this headphone is still good if not the best.

Perfect

Pros: Everything.

Cons: Doesn't reach 150 feet through walls but gives enough freedom to move around the house.

These are amazing headphones, truly. The fact that they're wireless makes them great for playing guitar and is very nice when I want to get food and listen to music from youtube. I love the quality, 10 - 22k HZ is better than a pair of 400$ pair of "Dr. Dre Beats" that comes in at about 20 - 20k HZ. Extremely comfortable to wear for prolonged use. The only thing that's not great is the fact that they are not bluetooth so the device you are listening from must be anchored, but a pair of bluetooth stereo headphones is 200$+ so it's ok.

Sony Quality

Pros: Instant on, Easy charging cradle

Cons: Poor overall quality

Before buying I read the reviews and thought that all the negative ones were probably from people who just love to find fault. After buying these I tend to agree with them. 1. The headset is not adjustable for a better fit. 2. Very poor sound quality with virtually no bass 3. Static and interference with the transmitter less than 15' the headset 4. a squeal or squeak from the plastic connection between the earpiece and the headband whenever I move my head. All in all I am very disappointed in the overall quality of these headphones. I will say that this is the first poor quality Sony product that I have ever purchased in 30+ years as a consumer.

Don't buy if you have a wifi at home... really.

Pros: appearance

Cons: Noise and interferance

My advice: always buy wired Headphones. If you have a router and anything running on wifi, don't buy that, you'll regret it as much as I did.

Unreliable Battery

Pros: Good range and sound quality

Cons: Rarely works

These headphones are pretty good when they work, both quality and range. But unless you use them daily, you absolutely cannot rely on the rechargeable battery. If you use the headphones at exactly the moment a recharge is complete, it will work fine. But if you have not used them for several days, but left the headphones in the cradle (supposedly to recharge as needed), they will NOT continuously recharge. In fact, they will almost always be dead. Not a very good design. I have many Sony devices with rechargeable batteries that never lose a charge until the battery gets old (my wireless phone and my rechargeable universal remote control). But this Sony item seems to have missed that design session.

Too much variable hiss and static

Pros: Light weight, comfortable, rechargeable, auto-on/off feature

Cons: Poor sound quality - inconsistent high frequency hissing

These headphones are horrible. I followed the directions exactly as indicated. I plugged it in and let it charge until the indicator went off (about 17 hours). I made sure no cables were crossed and the transmitter was in a good isolated location. It's all for not as the sound received by the headphones is inconsistently noisy depending on how subtle the sound is and how you hold your head. And yes, I tried all three channels, the auto tuning button, moving the transmitter around -- everything suggested in the manual. These headphones just don't work well. The sound quality varies inconsistently, and I blame the active filtering built into the headphones. When no music or sound is playing, they are dead silent. Low frequency passes (rumbling, roars, bass drum, thumps, etc...) also contain no hiss. As soon as a high-frequency sound starts to play, the headphones are filled with a high-frequency hissing noise on top of the actual sound. Move around the room and the hiss will increase and decrease. Stand three feet from the transmitter, and the hiss will mostly be gone, until you turn your head and the hiss fades in and out depending on the angle of your head. These headphones are unusable. It's a shame -- for they're light and very comfortable to wear. The charging mechanism works great too. AND they ingeniously turn themselves on and off simply by wearing them or taking them off your head. But none of it matters for headphones are all about sound, and the sound quality coming out of these headphones is full of hissing and static. The more subtle the passages in the music, the louder the hiss is amplified. It's says Sony on the package, which is surprising. This is the first Sony product I've purchased (20+ years) that I've ever been unsatisfied with.

Terrible creaking sound from the plastic parts

Pros: Transmission of sound was good

Cons: Very loud creaking sound everytime the ear pads moved slightly.

Just got the headphones and was very impressed except...... whenever you move the earpads in any way, there is a very loud creaking sound. The plastic hinged part needs to be lubruicated or trimmed or something. The support line says the only way to fix it is to send it in for repairs which means being without them for who knows how long. I will be returning them and purchasing a different brand as customer support was not very helpful and I have to order them from out of town and cannot try them before I buy them. I DO NOT recommend buying these unless you can try them in the store first.

worst product ever

Pros: attractive

Cons: dont work at all

I purchased these for my father. We followed the directions exactly. The battery was supposed to be fully charged after @ 16 hrs. Twenty-one hours later it still wasn't charged. We were unable to get any sound at all. There are only a few options to try and none of them worked. I give this product one star and that's only because they look attractive.

Freedom vs sound quality

Pros: Portable; New NiMH battery easy to charge

Cons: low sound quality

It was a little disturbing that a great company like SONY would manufacture such a low quality device. Lacking of bass, and higer frequency details are the least I have to mention. It makes my ear hurt. After a long time using this earphone, I feel dizzy! I live in an metropolitan arpartment building, where radio signal interferences are common. I sometimes pickup neighbors' wireless phone conversations while other times receive annoying white noises. For the money, it's not that bad. At least it gives me freedom to walk around without wires. I think I'll buy a higher end one.

Nice Headphones

Pros: Light, Nice sound, everything

Cons: A little big(not a con for me because it makes them more comfortable)

These are great headphones for the price. I still decided to get the mdrrf970rk after reading some good and bad reviews... well I have no clue why there would be bad reiviews on this product(examples complaining about hiss and pop)which I get none of! Maybe its something interfering with their signal?Idk. Overall, good product for the price.

Just try to find a replacement battery

Pros: Decent enough sound quality

Cons: Battery replacement is difficult

I've enjoyed these for at least a year or more, but when the rechargeable battery (BP-HP550-11) would no longer keep a charge, I had a TIME finding a new one. No search of the Sony site could find it. Yet the manual insists that it must use this battery that's not commercially available. Using suggested commercially available dry AAA batteries will not allow you to re-charge in the charger and certainly won't last as long as their hard-to-find battery.

Met my needs...

Pros: If you want a wireless headset for TV, this is the phone

Cons: Weak bass!!!

In my opinion, who are talking about this bad phone or purchased it with defective or not properly use this knowledge, I have one here and it works perfectly without interference or noises, and looks to have a wi-fi network at home with D-link router 635. I really liked the way it charges the battery and the duration of the load, not to mention the distance that he arrives, walk my whole apartment without losing the signal, I loved it, the only thing I missed was more severe, I am really enjoying it out of my purchase!

great buy

Pros: Delivers on my needs

Cons: None for me

There are a lot of reviews here that are misleading because the whiners don't give you the full story. A 27' travel trailer is measured from the end of the tongue to the back of the rear bumper and rounded up to the next even foot. Sony probably does a similar range test with this unit in an open field. its the way all things are measured...absolute best conditions, so live with it. Nothing deceptive. As with all thing wireless, range is not determined by the device but obstacles it must deal with. The batteries are a standard AA NM rechargeable at any Walmart. Been there done that. One headset at a time in the broadcast area...2 or more doesn't work well. Doesn't work as desired on my CRT TV (old technology)but is a dream on my HDTV. I can mute that TV and listen at the volume I want..no static, no interference. Bad reviews are often from stupidity and/or higher than reasonable expectations of a product to do something it wasn't designed to do. Got a friend one and he is in headphone heaven. We both have hearing issues. For MY needs it is a dream answer, with no issues

Pass this buy

I had high expectations after seeing the look of these headphones only to be disappointed at every feature. The battery compartment is very hard to open and close. My battery did not fully charge even after 24 hours even after being very careful that unit was placed properly in base. There was static on certain notes when listening to music. The phones are also very heavy. The ear covers come off easily but are a pain to put back on.

Poor Quality - Sound "cuts out" frequently

Pros: None

Cons: Random loss of sound

Listening to TV programs with the MDRRF970RK is very poor. The sound simply stops coming through the headphones for about 1-2 seconds of silence. This happens at random times and is very annoying. Most people will NOT be happy with these headphones!

Great Wireless Headphones Under $100

Pros: Wireless, great sound, stylish design

Cons: None so far

I bought these headphones earlier this week from Best Buy. Like those reading this review I researched and read other reviews and saw the same 1 star reviews many had written about this product. However, I decided to get these anyway hoping to have better luck....I am so happy I did! These headphones work great and look great too! I love that they are wireless (main reason I bought them) and I am having no problems at all. I have a sony home theater system and everything (plasma hdtv, cable box, PS3) has sound going into that. I also have a D-link wireless router about 1 ft. away from the headphone's transmitter too. I followed the advice I read elsewhere about turning up the volume on the source higher (in my case, my sony surround sound system) and keeping the volume selector on the headphones lower instead of maxed out and it works like a charm...perhaps others aren't doing this? Sometimes when i turn them on I get a little static but thats why the tuning button is there...one press of the button and it's gone. I dont know what the deal is with the negative reviews but I am very happy with my purchase. Now I can watch movies or play COD Black Ops without disturbing anyone and listen as loud as I want WIRELESSLY!

Best present ever...

Pros: I can hear

Cons: none

My hearing is not what it used to be. I can hardly hear the TV unless it's blaring. Now I can hear everything on the TV and not blow everyone out of the room. I can walk all the way back to the restroom with them on and still hear everything that's showing. Oh, and the music.... the music coming out of this headset from our TV shows is awesome. I love it.
